Here is the first test fitting. We're going to need surgery on that storage box.

Storage box comes right off. Just unbolt the bolts on the top brace for the inner fender and the two side bolts and she's off in your hand.... Granted, so is that grab rail, but then again, that's go to go as well anyway, right?

Mine looked like it was moded totally to the inner fender, which I want to keep, so I took a different approach. This gave me the needed clearance . Next I will have the tubes of this spacer welded together. I think I can make it hinge at the rear. Anyone have a smaller tail light?

Just use the stocker. fab a bracket that holds it right upinside that cowl. It fits nice in there. Just make sure that you keep in tight up in there, if you let it hang down at all you risk the rear tire hitting it if the suspention were to pushed all the way in (don't ask me how I know that... I don't want to talk about it).

Man, you guys have definitely got a great look going there. Keep up the good work

adams, the look that you're going for is similar to what I want for my 77' CB550K
project. I'm still gathering ideas on the features and getting together a list of parts I'll need
for it. I really like that look. When I can get to it, I'll be happy. Got so many things going, all I
can do is check out others, when I get the chance. I'm anxious to get to working on it.
When, you can, how about some details on yours adams? Better go.

Adam you were the inspiration. Looks like yours is coming along nicley.

I bent a piece of flat bar and made the hinge look like the stock seat part. Then I moved the bottom part of the hinge in by cutting and grinding off the tabs and redrilling the holes. I attached the frame that my boy welded up for me and rivited it to the underside of the seat pan to achieve the hieght that I liked and would work. Next I cut out a hunk of aluminum sheet to fit in the back of the cowl. I left a little extra on it and beat it into submission so it kind of looks like a little fender from the underside then I mounted the old tail light that I got from Western Cycle Salvage. I got a couple of grommets from the local hardware store and used some new stainless bolts and washers for this. Then I pop riveted to plate on and VIOLA a seat. I put on some padding layers and I am trying for a McClellan saddlle effect for long term comfort but I think after riding it I am going to the foam store for some 2" thick foam that Paulages turned me on to. ITshould look better and be more comfy for me bum.

Im glad that the pics helped. I am thinking of grabbing an 80s model 750 seatpan and tail section and making my "Dunstall" style seat for the next one.

I've got an early 750F seat that I've considered using on a project bike but, I hate to start
modifying it, you know? It's not in bad shape except for the paint and a very, very small tear. I
do have a couple of Kawasaki Z1 tail pieces that go behind the seat, that I could use for the rear
section of the seat. I'm not sure how I'm going to use them right now. Later on, Bill

ok so here is the finished seat that I am riding today. I went through two evolutions of padding. This padding is a form of pipe insulation that I got for free from work and the first padding was three layers of garage sale sleeping mat. This is much softer and squishier. The cover was made right on the seat using it for pattern. I hand stitched the vinyl with a sewing awl.

ok I'll throw my hat, or is that seat, into the ring. sorry but the bike is completely apart at the mo so no pics of it installed. I used my 650 tail light to provide the lines for the seat, paint to be added shortly
