Tweakin-- What dirt bike you get and is it going to have another build thread for me to follow  ;D

Yamaha WR450f.  It was difficult not buying a Honda but I just liked the package of the WR over Honda
No build thread but is currently torn apart in the garage, getting valve inspection, and a bunch of other bits ;D

Thanks! I'm finishing the clutch install today. Finishing phase 1 is my birthday gift to myself. I just hope it delivers.

Compared the APE friction plates to the stockers it looks like the APE's are about 1-2mm thinner. So I compared the stock stack height to that of the APE (in stock format) and it was much shorter. To balance I then added one of the APE steel plates and one friction plate. It's still about 1mm short but I'm going to give it a shot in that format. If it doesn't work properly I'll add the remaining steel / friction plates but that will put it about 2mm over sized. Probably not a big deal but am inching into it.

Will report back later.

No cracks in the lifter plate

Here's the clutch stack. The shiny plate is the one additional in the kit.

The center nut all the way down with the tapered edge towards the tabed locking washer:

Connacle washer with the bow towards the outside:

I guess I'll add an additional steel / friction to the stack which will put it a hair taller than stock and see if that helps.

That last picture looks right to me.

Also it may be the picture but the one with the nut installed it looks like maybe you should have more thread sticking "proud" of nut? Make sure you have the splines of the backing plate and the hub correct. You can install it wrong and the teeth won't mate. I am sure you know this but at least wanted to mention it... I can find some pictures in MCRiders thread if you need em.

The last picture with the remaining plate set from APE? I have to run out but when I get back I'll check here for any additional information and then go out and put everything in again.

When i put it together I had the backing plate in the grooves on the bench and then threaded 2 springs and nuts onto the basket so I'd think that'd be in but I've been wrong before.

Good information in there...and 116 pages...holy hell.

Ok I'm going to go out and try it again with this configuration. I'm a little concerned that I didn't mark the lifter plate before removal. I'll just have to be extra careful...

We're on the other side of the fence now. The clutch wont disengage fully and it feels like it's hitting the clutch cover. So I think that extra plate might have put it too tall.

Have to get away from it for a little bit and think about it. Probable take those two added plates out and put it back in marking everything and being extra careful.

Back to previous APE setup and coincidentally enough we're back to not fully releasing.

I did a quick rock back and forth in gear test and it seems like it's trying to turn the motor over which would indicate the clutch basket side of things is fine.

I did replace the lifter arm and actuater with another i had lying around...still the same issue. this is a tad frustrating.

I think i'm going to double check the roll test...if it doesn't hold firmly with the plate and actuator assembly off i'm going to yank the APE discs and put the stock ones back in...

Unless ya'll have other ideas.

With the cover off the clutch holds great. I set the cover on (no torque) and it still holds great. Once i torque the cover down it begins to let go. I have the adjuster backed all the way out.

It seems like the actuator assembly isn't seating fully inside the clutch cover...

Got it zero'd down but not sure what the problem is...yet.

I swapped the clutch cover to a spare from a K and it worked fine. Back to the F cover and it wouldn't work. So it's something with the F cover. I'm going to sand the area where the actuator assembly mates to it and try again.

Until then...i'm going to run with an ugly a$$ silver cover on my black motor :-D

Took it out for a ride and it's still slipping like a mofo...cant get out of 2k without it letting go.

I'm kind of at a loss here...I'm going to do some research and see what i find but this is really starting to p1$$ me off.

If I get a chance today I'm going to rotate the lifter plate 90 degrees and see if that has any affect. I read on another page that can cause slippage.

Okay...rotated the lifter plate 90 degrees...it went on easier but still slipped like crazy.

Pulled the stack out and compared the height with the stock setup. It was much lower than i remember. With all the APE plates it was WAY too high. Removing the double plate was WAY too low.

So I concluded F it...put the stock setup back in but used the APE HD springs and BINGO!!!

The clutch feels good at the handle and holds great. I even did a "tractor pull" at 40mph 5 gear, 3000rpm and it didn't let go.

I've ridden about 10 miles (finally geezuz) and could not be happier. This thing runs like a damn BANSHEE!!!

The power really kicks at about 3000RPM and just doesn't quit! I'm looking forward to playing with it some more...get it good and broken in and then let the tuning fun begin!

I would post pictures but I think i'm going to go out and ride some more  ;D

Man that sucks about the APE clutch. I wish you could have gotten it to work . Glad you got the stocker to work though. I just bought an APE clutch I hope it works for me. Mine is a K motor though.

In hindsight I wish i would have marked the stock height with a little knife mark on the insert. Might have been able to get it to balance a little better?

Good luck and i'll be watching your thread to see how it turns out. I think the clutches are similar and if I can get those plates to work I'll swap over to them.
