That would require travel, since he is picking clean the area he frequents now.

You mean you guys aren't finding mechanics and dealers and former Honda dealers to get your leads from? Researching shops and companies that used to carry Yoshimuri parts during their heyday and public records for who bought them if they folded or who were the owners then? Talking to old racers who were sponsored who are still around seeing what they know. Networking and growing your network of the movers and shakers in the road racing circuits and motorcycle speed merchants?
How many reorders of personal business cards with general list  of what you collect and look for has he gone through? One of Greggos cards is probably pinned in the corner of every Honda mechanic's area bulletin board within a 300 mile radius of his place and his pop's place.

You guys are funny!  Believe it or not, I'm not doing anything extraordinary except spending too much time on the internet.  David, I'd need a big pile of cash to deal with all the parts that kind of leg work can get you.

Gave up on the crank...it will make a nice wall piece once I clean it up...it was mirror polished at one point.

I'll pull a crank out of a spare motor and send it to Big Jay.  His lightening/balancing work is cheaper than one of the processes in re-grinding this old crank, and will take it beyond what they were capable of back in the day.  But, I want to use the rods if they're good, so they're being stress checked (forgot the real term).

Good choice Greggo. I saw a repaired Gixxer crank journal fail this summer. It looked like new after it had been done, but didn't last.

I have had similar experience with original ZX-11 cranks though the oil feed to #3 rod was lousy on those bikes.

What is the number one reason why a crank would fail? Lack of lube? [that's what she said]

Stev-o, I think in this case, where a crank had been repaired it's that the repair is/will never be as strong as the original bearing.

In general, I believe that yes, a lack of oil is usually the culprit in the early death of a bearing.

Got the last few bits.  Here's the complete Yoshimura magneto set up.

Fixed point advance.

Four pole stator.

500/550 Stator covers.  Magnesium on the right.

Got some patches, and the tag for my '2' cam also.

Basically...STOKED!
