I ran with a vista cruise for a while. It worked very wel land was easy to use. I could take my hand off the throttle if I wanted with no problems. They are about $23.

Hey junkie...seem there were lots of changes through the years...I'm still trying to get a handle on what and when...Throw in the smaller 4s too and there's a lot to remember.

I may get one of the Vista Cruise and give it a try...noticed the local Honda shop had them for $15

Seem Honda would have addressed the issue...I'm a weight lifter and tournament water skier...I've got good hand strength and it's very uncomfortable to ride any distance with the spring that's on there...Hand will cramp in 20 min tops!

My 74 550 has the push/pull cables, I had them miss adjusted one time and you could hardly turn the grip with two hands.  Re adjusted the cables and it went to light as a feather.

If someone wants one of these screws, I can make one with a nice (but plastic) thumbscrew on it. The tip should be rounded. Inside the throttle grip there is a flat, folded spring plate that this screw tightens against, providing friction against the rotation of the throttle. There needs to be a spring around the screw (on the outside) to help it stay in place. Lots of them are lying about on the highway (or stuck in someone's tire!) from riders who set them too loose, letting them fall out and....gone! These disappeared by DOT law in 1974, most K3 and later were missing them. The signature change was with the 90-degree OFF switch on the right side: factory units that came this way in mid-1973 and later had no screw, nor a hole for one.

And, it makes a SUPER cruise control at speeds of 80+.   ;)

Put me down for a couple mate! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ooops! I haven't looked back here for a long time. I'll make some up, then drop you a note.
Maybe I'll take some pix of mine (inside) and post 'em here for others to see what they're missing. I'll bet a piece of Band-It would make a good u-spring....
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

(Sorry for some late responses, just tuned in to the thread...)

I thought the reason they added the rubber sleeve to the throttle return spring was to keep it from chafing on the bowl vent hoses running to the carbs..?

Anyway, even after the throttle friction adjusters were dropped, there is still a raised circle on the bottom control pod casting, so you could easily drill a hole in it and tap it.

For anyone who needs the parts (Mainly Junkie in particular), here they are (I just ordered 'em from a dealer, so they are available...):

Adjuster (the little steel "brake shoe" that rides against the throttle sleeve)- 53163-300-020
Spring- 53191-300-000
Adjuster Bolt- 53190-300-000

Here's a pic of the whole mess:

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
