How do people who only have one gauge mount it in the center?
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:05:02 PM »
I've seen some 750's and 550's that people had removed the tach and were running only the original speedo on what seems like the original mounting bracket.  How do they mount the original gauge like this?  Are they using extra bracketry somewhere?

You machine an "adapter plate" of sorts. Really depends on the year bike , and what top clamp you have. If its an early unicorn tree, sell it, and buy a later one  to cut up.

Gotcha, I'd be trying to do it on a 1975 550k.

Not sure what you really mean by unicorn tree, but I don't think you'd really have to mess anything up with the triple itself, you could just mount off the existing holes for the bracket that held the two gauges in the first place.

Just found a picture of one of those "unicorn trees" and wow, that is a cool looking piece.

they break easily and are pretty expensive, where the one you have is a dime a dozen. If it were me, i'd get a spare, and start fabbing up the mount you want so there's no bike downtime.

Spare?...its an hour or two job to make a mount using a file, drill, hacksaw, and piece of aluminum.

Lol, I've got a couple full ASSEMBLIES laying around so I was just wondering if I could fab something up that would be a bolt on application.  Let's see where this goes.  Should have something workable by tonight.  I'm planning on using a bike speedo because these old ones are #$%* anyway.
