350F Gauges Original or Not ?
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:30:07 AM »
These are the gauges I'm starting to refurb on my 350F. Something seems funky to me, because in other pictures of 350f's I'm not seeing the neutral or turn lights in the tach, AND when i turn the headlight on the neutral light comes on in the tach? So is the original style of tach that came with the 72's ?  all the wires are there, but this just isn't adding up. I'm begginning to wonder if these are even original.   Can anyone shed some light on this?

The speedo looks just like mine, but the tach is definitely not like mine.  Mine does not have those lights, as you have described, and I believe my redline is marked in yellow, not red.

Also, your ignition key is in the wrong spot. :)

Haha, yes I know, i kinda like it there though.  The PO def. did some creative wiring on this bike.  It all works, but it is just odd that the tach has those lights...any other info guys?

Definitely not original because the dummy lights are already on the separate panel. Looks like it could be from a CB350 twin. Does the tach read accurately? I don't think it would read correctly if it was from a twin, but those gauges don't look like they came from any sohc4.

Yep -- these are from a CL350 twin. Look a lot like what you have..

Yes, unless you like burning your hands and fumbling around when trying to start/stop your bike, it makes way more sense to be where you have the key now. :)

Not.  thats the standard mount location for a 350F keyswitch. looks like you're missing the cover though.

I don't think so. I bought a similar mounting plate and cover in 1972 for my CB350. After a few months, I discovered that the wiring harness behind key switch was not designed to flex. I repaired the broken wires and moved it back to the original location.

Looks like the tach came from a 200T, or 350L...   found both on eBay, that look the same.

If you need a original 350F tach, I've got one that works... cheap.

Definitely the wrong tach. The lights shouldn't be in it and the redline starts at 10,000 on a 350F. Speedo looks OK off the top of my head, but I'm not home to check the bike closely. I have a '72 350F.

Yeah, are they plastic? They look like the gauges on my CJ360T. (Same as for CB200, CB360, CL, etc.)

I'm getting ready to put a new triple tree on it, so i guess it's a good time to decide if i want to keep the stock config or not.  I like the mini speedo with the idiot lights built in, but i've also read they are hard to see.

and I believe my redline is marked in yellow, not red.

The redline is red.  They fade to yellow way too quickly (I bought a NOS tacho & it faded in the Aussie sunshine within 2 years)

Happened to mine too, when I got it from the PO, it was almost fading to white. Best to keep it inside in the shade
