Engine color Question
« on: October 04, 2012, 08:59:42 PM »
So I got my bike all fixed up and it's looking great. But I do have a question for some of you pro's. My engine block as you can see is black. However, because of it's age, the black is faded. Is there a way to get this color back without having to repaint the whole thing?

It's definitely possible to mask it in the frame and hit it with some high temp semi-gloss.

Not really. I've heard that S100 can help but never tried it. This is precisely why I'll never paint another engine black. They look great at first but ride through the first rain storm and it's crap after that. ESPECIALLY wrinkle finishes.

I've had pretty good luck so far with mine.  Daily rider for a year now and it still has all the paint.

Maybe polish up the ends of the fins to give it some contrast? Straight black looks like splotchy gray pretty quick, but if you give it a nice bit of contrast, it'll be much less noticeable.

Last time I had mine apart I had the head and cylinder powder coated high gloss black and it is standing up good even with the red dirt . ,S100 engine brightner does work good . Only ever used it on HD's so not real sure how it will work on our old stuff . My latest big motor was powdered then sent out for the Diamond Head service . Wow does it look good ! Red
