I read here in the forum that simple green is best for cleaning carbs and all the guys here buy it by gallon in walmart or other stores. Here in the Philippines i can buy simple green products as well. But i have more then 15 different products. Which is the right one? They even sell aircraft cleaner here in a spraycan.
One is named industrial cleaner,other one BBQ cleaner. But its all branded'Simple Green".
Which one is the real"Simple Green"

The green colored sassafras smelling Simple Green is not good for the aluminum alloy used in the Honda Carbs. The problem is neutralizing the chemical action... the USAF used Simple Green for a while but then banned it because it was linked to deterioration of finish as well as structure on aluminum and composite airframe materials.

There is a formulation of an industrial strength biodegradeable concentrated Simple Green that is purple in color and when properly dilluted it is safe to use on aluminum and aluminum alloy carbs. Here in the US I have only seen it at a home improvement supply center called Home Depot.

The one I use says "All purpose cleaner" on the bottle, it's green. I've never had a problem with it wrecking a carb or jet, if you leave it soaking overnight I'd expect it to do some finish damage. Ive had it darken the carb body after a long soak but after a good rinse in warm soapy water and a final clean with carb clean the finish comes back. It's always been my first stage cleaner for carbs or jets.

Thanks a lot. I try the all purpose. I was thinking the BBQ cleaner should be good also for hardcore gunk inside. anyay i dont leave the carbs inside for the whole day,maybe few hours and then check.
Hope it works. have to check anyway first how bad it is inside. last run of the bike was last year november.But only in the garage,not on the street,thats what the PO told me.Slides are frozen,thats for shure. maybe tomorrow i will have a look.

How about trying a solution meant for cleaning carbs? Berrymans makes a carb dip that comes in a one gallon can with a dip basket.

Over on Hondachopper.com we all swear by the use of Pine-Sol for carb cleaning puposes. It doesn't have any acidic etch to the ALUM to worry about and it cleans the aluminum and the brass jets also.
Check that site in the Community/ Q/A+search for Pine-Sol.
If this bike is NOT a CB750 ,keep that a secret or the post will get deleted!!

+1...still don't understand why guys are using all these cleaners etc. that aren't for carbs...carb cleaner works...although, I have no idea what all is available in the Phillipines...

Cabilao's signature indicates he has a 750P7 which I take as a police bike. Also, non-SOHC posts are not deleted, they are respectfully moved to the Other Bikes section and a link is left in their place.

If you noticed in my post I was mentioning for him to check on Hondachopper.com.
They talk CB750 SOHC ONLY , they allow some leway when asking about parts but don't try asking how to clean and tune a set of XS650 carbs. We don't have a Other bike section!! in our forums.

I'll tell you why I use it, you can't get Berrymans in Canada, finding an equivalent product locally is next to impossible. Napa carries a carb dip with a basket but it's about $70+.

Simple green is non toxic, biodegradable. I don't worry if it comes in contact with my skin & I can pour it down the drain when I'm done with it. Oh and it WORKS, it breakes down varnish like nobody's buisness. I can go to Wal Mart and buy 2L jugs for $20 iirc till 11pm 7 days a week and not have to wait for napa to bring something in from where ever, sounds like a no brainer to me.

Oh did I mention that it works?

I'll weigh in here as to the WHY of using Simple Green. First, it works.........works great. Second and more importantly to me the Berryman's and other similar dedicated carb cleaners are noxious and toxic as all get out, whereas the SG is safe and environmentally friendly. Limit the immersion time to no more than an hour and a half to reduce the darkening and finish degradation and you're good to go.

Thanks for the comments and tips. I go with the all porpose and ellbow grease. If its not working i can still change the product. And yes,its a SOHC 4,former Police. But unknown from what country. Maybe from saudi arabia,the PO imported it from there. There is no list specially for police bikes as long as i know.
I try to find out something from Honda. Maybe they have listings with this P frame numbers.

I cleaned some aluminum parts with Easy Off, and they turned pretty dark. How can I return them to original aluminum color?

The only way would be to remove the oxide layer. Soda blasting would be the easy way.

^^^I've cleaned worse, haha. That's pretty cruddy but nothing a good thourogh cleaning won't cure.

Start with soda blasting and then move up to glass bead or plastic bead. Glass bead gives a nice finish I think.

Glass bead can be a little harsh on aluminum. Saying that because I used if for years for industrial cleaning. You are better off using a soda based cleaning media, and then following with plastic bead cleaning media, if you want it shiny. But from past experience the soda based should be more then enough.

Hush had a CB650PZ, not a 750. I always wonder why people use these household cleaners to clean their carbs, there is a new (old) product out called CARB CLEANER, believe it or not, it is designed to clean carbs. Shocking, I know. If you can't lay your hands on carb cleaner, acetone works just as well.

Haven't you heard the latest thing in the United States is to be Environmentally friendly. Yes I do agree acetone does work wonders degumming carbs clogged up from years of running E10 gasoline.

I contactHush already,he dont know more than me. Its a big secret in the CB750`s world with this P frame numbers,hehe. Guess i go with the normal cleaner and then do some soda blasting for finish. Can i blast the outside of the engine? The fins and covers are ugly. Guess thats not a problem. Hope i can start soon,lot of other work to do here,prepping for the high season.

Pine Sol as an overnight soak works well and doesn't darken the aluminium.

The whole green movement has more contradictions in it than anything I have ever known. It is designed to make a few people very rich without actually doing much other than give the average joe a warm fuzzy feeling thinking they are doing something good for the environment.

ok while you can't really deny that someone's getting rich somewhere off of anything you buy, there's still going to be an obviously smaller environmental impact if you have millions of people using more environmentally-friendly products. i try to use natural products, and i recycle, and as an average joe i do get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that i'm doing my part even though zillions of other people aren't.

i guess i do it as compensation for all the gasoline i burn
