An Update On My Dad, After Doctor's Appointment Today
« on: October 08, 2012, 09:37:45 AM »

Since we have been down in Georgia, my dad has had SOME issues, that have caused him SOME problem. The main one was his oxygen level. But, the Doctor down here, is keeping a close eye on my Dad and making a few adjustments, having to do with his oxygen flow and also with some of his meds. He WAS seeing him every 2 weeks (only 2 visits) and today, he increased that to every 2 months, because my Dad is gaining some weight (he had gotten down to 116) and we got a very good report today. Last year, about a week after his 86th Birthday, my Dad had to be taken to the ER, and was found to have pneumonia. After about a 5day stay in the hospital, he also had to go through 14 days of physical therapy and Speech Therapy. He also had to start having his food AND Drink in "Pudding Consistency" only! Can you imagine having to use a Spoon, to have water? Fortunately, after all the speech therapy, he was able to get back to eating regular food and his drinks only had to be thickened slightly (Nectar thickness). If he is feeling good, when I ask him how he's doing (when I go over to see him and my Daughter), he says "Everybody He Can".  ;D  He can STILL make some pretty funny comments, when you least expect them. Just thought I'd put an update in here, for those of you, who have given so much support to us, over the years. Thank you ALL for the Support Too! Catch you all later on,  Bill  ;)

Good to hear Bill.  One of these days I'll have to rally the SOHC4 gang down here and ride up to see you.  Fall colors make for a great reason to ride in the mountians... (oh yeah and meeting other forum members) ;)

Thanks for That Bill.  :)  I have kept him caught up, on all of the support from you all, though he won't remember it. I can Honestly say that he, at one time, knew about all of the support, thought his memory isn't near what it was just a few years ago. Thanks again, Buddy;)

Hey Billy, it's good to hear that your dad can still make you laugh when one considers what he has been through over the last few years. Give him my best wishes for a full recovery.
Now that you are settled in Georgia, you've no excuse for not getting to meet up at Valdosta mate. ;D
There will be quite a few members there 9th 11th November. hope you can make it. ;)

Hey Sam, good of you to drop by on this thread. Sorry, but I just now noticed. Yeah, my Dad can STILL crack some pretty funny ones alright. I forgot to put this in the beginning of this thread, but Here's what happened at the beginning of the visit to the doctor:

Doctor came in, greeted my Dad with "How Are You Feeling Mr. Van Pelt"? My Dad just looked at him, smiled and said, dryly "With My Hands." Caught Me offguard, but you should have seen how he threw the Doctor! LOL!! He had to think a minute and it hit him, that my Dad REALLY has quite a sense of humor, when he is feeling pretty good.  ;D  Doc really got a kick out of how my Dad, being 87yrs old, not in the best of health, but could STILL throw out a pretty good one liner.  ;)  Now, on the other hand, just a few days ago, he told my Daughter Karla, that he felt sure that he only had about 2 more weeks to live. Said it was just a feeling he had. Of course, it kinda threw my Daughter and she called me, to tell me about it. He seems to be doing alright, considering his age and all. So, I still have no clue why he would say that. He's Never commented like that before.  Guess we do the best we can and just try to handle what comes up, when it does.

Sam, I will sure do my best to be there, buddy. Sure ought to have a lot better chance at getting er done this time, eh?  :)

Have a good one Sam.  ;)

Hey John, good to hear from you. I'll do my best to do just that, with my Dad. This move, has helped my Daughter (Karla) to become more active in helping with my Dad and She needed that, which also helps her to not dwell too much on losing her Mother. No John, I accidentally lost that cell phone and do need to get your number again and I need to pm you mine as well. I am sad to say that we aren't going to be able to make it to Barber this time. I need to make another run to Arkansas. But, now that we are down here in Georgia, I think we are about 5hrs or so, from Birmingham and hopefully, we can work out a meeting, when things get more together, around here. Catch you later on John,   Bill
