Geeto, I looked at a 350 tank and it didn't look like it would fit without major surgery- didn't look like it was wide enough in the back to fit the 400 frame.  Or is that just the 400?  Sometmes I forget you guys are talking about the 750s...

Those tanks from Benji are killer, just kinda pricey for a guy who spent almost the same
amount of $$ for the entire bike... :o

here's how mine came out - this pic is from the primer stage - it's painted now, but i'm not running it yet - got to do the seat next/first...

The 350 and 400 frames are identical except for the exhaust brackets.  I've seen guys put 400 tanks on 350s and vice versa.

I posted a link a while ago where some guy shoehorned a 350F tank onto a 750K8 cafe!!  Looked a bit short, but it seemed to fit ok.

Regarding the 500/550 frame, the 400 has the single "spine" while the 550 has the dual tubes heading back like the 750.  I doubt a 400 tank would fit a 550 by just dropping on, but if someone can make a 350 tank fit a 750, I'm sure it can be done.  Just hammer out the underside to clear the frame tubes, even though the area hammered out for the twin coils already gives a lot of the clearance needed.

you can see that the rear mounting brackets are in the same position reletive to the front mounts - the rear of the SS tank "cowls" over the bracket and a shorter seat is req'd...that's why i don't have mine set up yet - as JP put it fiberglassing is a #$%* - i'm gonna use paulages method when it comes time.

Groovie- Benjie said he can make a tank for a 500. He doesn't have a 400 frame to go from. I have a 400, so I was wondering if a 500 tank might fit on a 400 frame.

It should because the 400 frame backbone shoud be narrower.  I would check the clearances of the dual coils though, because they DO stick out.

Just a tip before taking a hammer to the side of a tank-check for bondo first. I hit the right side of mine, and it caved in and curved perfectly. 4 hits, tops. With a little more confidence, I whacked the left side. It had a 3" thick layer of bondo, that caved in the entire side of the tank. Bummer.

that looks nice, too - one thing that bothers me about the sort of halfway approach a lot of us are taking is that lower seam edge - when you don't get into that seam it remains a mainly cosmetic mod.

i find that as pleased as i am with the outcome of my tank project, i'm still annoyed by the fact that my knees contact that seam edge...

until i'm set up to do a full tank fabrication i don't see any way around this problem...

I left the seams to keep the lines from the seat matching.  The other tanks I have built, I went in to the seam about 1-2 inches on either sides and was not happy with how they lined up.  Or.....I just couldnt find a seat that I liked with that type of tank.

Besides at 5'8" my knees barely make it to the tank!
