Better pics to come.  Tank and covers ready for pickup from my local painter.  For your amusement, a shot of my beautiful tank beforehand  ;)

Looks really good. At the filler neck where the paint stops. Did the painter put a sealer? I have heard that is where  the paint starts to lift when fuel spills. someone here said he took a small painters brush and put a clear sealer all the way around. Just wondering. :)

Looks very nice! I like that green!  All paint or decals?  New badges too?

Thanks for the compliments, very very happy to finally have it done.  I'll post some better pics soon.

Color is kind of a one off, was based on candy jade green but I wanted it to be a little darker and less gold than some of the pics I was seeing online.  Bike came with no badges so front are nos from ebay and for the side covers some pretty clean used pieces (nos just the freaking wing can run $100/pair).  Stripes are decals but cleared in so well they look painted. Bollingball, he actually did add a product he normally lines the whole tank with right on the top of the filler neck to prevent lifting.

It ran when parked in the spring, fingers crossed for no problems

Don't know if you're speaking of me, but a few months ago when I got my painted tank back, the painter had suggested that I do something similar. For the same reason. Gas fumes will try to get under the lip of the paint and lift it.

I used a small brush and a Por-15 type product. It was dark, not clear. I'd had the interior of my tank sealed by Moyers:
http://www.gas-tank.com/
The painter said to seal between where his paint left off and where the Moyers treatment began. Easy to do. Put 3 coats on, dry overnight before closing the cap.

I posted this in my build thread, but one would be hard pressed to find it.

PS: I do like the color, but what... no flames?   ;)

" Why does anyone get offended by what someone does to their own bike? I dont get it. "

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.
Every time any owner strips whatever precious Honda part the horrified purists parts go up in value. That's not the part that bothers them.
What bothers them is they sat up late at night, their breast full of wonder and estrogen, unable to sleep, dreaming about their lovely darling and all her glory... and next thing you know someone else doesn't share their emotional deluge and their reaction is they must spread their mind museum as far as they possibly can, taking over as much of the real world as possible.

Better late than never.  Tons of pics - all I did that day was take it from room to room and snap photos  :D .  Winter project will be putting a stock wheel on the back - I have the replacement but it needs to be respoked along with the front, plus some new tires.

This was a decal kit, not painted - could not believe how well they came out.

So a plug for the painter - Craig at precisionmotorcyclepaint.com.  Just happened to be local here in South Bend, but people send in work from all over the place.  One day when I was over there he was working on a vintage harley paint job for a customer in Tokyo..  Pleasure to work with, kept me updated throughout the process and even set me up with some of the missing badges and lower trim pieces for next to nothing.  Pictures speak for themselves.

Beautiful job.  Very well done.

BTW, you may want to check the red sidecover badges.  They appear to be mounted on the wrong cover,  the left wing on the right cover, etc.  Not trying to nit pic, Its a terrific job regardless.  Stickman

Curious what that paint job ran you? I'm interested in repainting my tank over the winter and have gotten number of quotes.

Same here, I got a quote from vintagehondapaints for close to 900. . .  I'll probably go local and have them try and match it from what I have.  Local guy here said he could match it and paint for closer to 350.
