Dyna 2000 on CB750A?

I have heard of the A's but have never seen one up close. Found one at an auction that nobody wanted, It looked like it was in okay shape and I loved the look of the big torque converter cover. Different! I bought it and tweeked it up a bit with a 41a cam. Easy to do on these bikes, you do not have to pull the motor. Love that! Put in a Dyna 2000 ignition as well as early K 28mm carbs. This bike rocks and is fun to ride. Glad I bought it and will never sell it.

Rklystron, How doew that Dyna 2000 ignition help with performance?  My '77 A is a little sluggish and a little difficult to start when not run for a while, and I was thinking about the Dyna 2000 ignition upgrade but unsure of the actual effectiveness.

Gday Bob, i think any electronic ignition will pep things up a bit more than the antiquated points {ducks for cover  ;D} but in my opinion a Dyna 2000 programmable ignition is overkill, a dyna s or pamco or a boyer ignition will be just as good for a stock or even mildly worked bike.... I'm going to use a Dyna2000 on one of my bikes but it has a big port head and valves, big cam, 1000cc billet block with 10.5-1 pistons and fuel injection, i wanted the flexibility of the 2000 and its ability to use different ignition curves...

I put the Pamco on my A.

But - before, it always started beautifully.  I will say thought, that I've never started put the Owner's Manual.

First, I always turn on the fuel, and wait a minute.  I have found that if you turn on the fuel, and hit start immediately, a carb or two (or three/four?) may not be full, and you get a hard to start - or keep running situation.

Then (after that minute wait), I crank the throttle to full - so the accelerator pumps squirts full down the throats, THEN I apply the choke, and press the start button.

FYI - I replaced my points for two reasons:  my "new points" were rather crappy Diachi units (although I could have paid extra $$ to get the better ones); and I do just like/prefer the thought of electronics.  The whole time I owned a VW Bug for example, I always wanted to get electronic ignition - but didn't have the bucks.  Having the electronic ignition just makes me feel better.

Well, Mine is certainly NOT a high performance bike.  So it sounds like the PAMCO unit will work.  Afterall, why spend the extra dollars for little or not additional benefit.
This is why I belong to this website.  Great information, advice and to prevent me from doing something that doen't make a lot of sense.
