1971 cb750 restomod
« on: October 11, 2012, 05:47:56 PM »
Hi, I am new here saw your website when i just got a 1971 cb750 about a couple months ago. I have finally got an idea of what im going to do to it. The PO put a kerker header, K and N mini individual air filters, and an 836 kit in it. Im going to keep the header and the 836 kit and get new ind. air filter. I was thinking of putting a stage 3 jet kit in it. dynacoils, wires, and an electronic ignition along with denso TT plugs and run it on 93 octane premium non ethonol gas. The cosmetic changes would be change the color from orange and black stripe to red with black stripe and metal flake. Paint the motor black, chrome the valve cover and other misc. engine covers and peices and parts. And it came with these weird bars and i was thinking of putting a set of 1986 vf500f interceptor handlebars that i got off a parts bike. and change to ss brake lines. Im going to buil with the help of a freind of mine and my dad me and i am only 15. What do ya think?

Welcome. Sounds like you know exactly what you want.

Consider polishing the aluminum engine covers instead of chrome plating, same effect but cheaper and will not peel (don't ask how I know!)

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

the bad thing is my dad wants to go back all stock but keep the 836 kit. In my mind that makes no sense but I'm still trying to convince him.

Now that i think about ill just get them polished thanks for the idea and I'm thinking about changing the fenders and putting dual front and one disc brake on it just thinking. Do any of you know where i could get a front wheel hub because i want to keep the spoke wheels.

Welcome to the forum. The dual disk set up isnt so much about the hub, but rather the speedo drive and some shimming. Use the search on this site, youll find most of any questions you can come up with have been gone over by a member at one time or another. I read 'Restomod' and thought of what the new trend is over in Japan. Google KZ1000 resto mod and see what you come up with. Maybe you father can keep that stock look and you still have the performance upgrades. Just a thought. Cant wait to see some progress either way.

I've looked into it some more and i think I'm going to go with gl1000 forks progressive innards and 86' VF500f front brake calipers and mounts and I'm still working on the rear brake idea and i wanted to go with progressive for the rear the 430 series i think is what they are.

I would put a stock airbox on it with a K&N drop in filter.  Jet the carbs for what they need, rather than a "stage" of "jet kit."  The airbox will make the bike run better overall (especially at cruising speed around town) and it's easy as pie to install.

For the rear disc setup, you could get a 1975-6 CB750F (super sport) swingarm, rear wheel (spoke wheel with disc), and caliper, but you'll have to figure out how to mount a rear master cylinder and brake lever, because the frames are different between the f and k bikes in that area. (k is setup with a welded brake pivot on the frame for the rear drum, the early f has a bolt on bracket for the brake pivot and master cylinder).

How good is the stock paint?  If it's nice, you would be smart to sell the tank (and side covers) you have and find a tank that has either has been repainted or has damaged paint and paint it to suit.  Check out ebay and see how much nice tanks go for. :)

You'll have a fun bike when it's all done. Good luck!

that's not a bad idea with the filter and I'm still working out the details for the rear but for the front I'm going to use 75' GL1000 wheel discs and the center piece where the line splits and goes down to the calipers and rotors but use 86 VF500f calipers with right caliper mount reversed and SS brake lines. the rear wheel will be GL1000 as well as the rotor and the rear caliper off a 86 VF500f. And i have a question i thought about changing the fenders to a shorter one up front as well as the rear but keep the look and one more question i wanted to put an oil gauge where the oil galley plug goes, how should i do it requiring the least modification because its mainly me working on it (15 yearsold) with a little help from another 15 yearold and another15 yearold watching to learn
