Topic: Re-connecting 069a carb linkage, is there a trick?

Here's a pic, yes that's blood, there's also been some sweat but hopefully there won't be any tears!  Having a bear of a time getting the link arms reconnected after cleaning and moving the needle height to the 4th down... here's the stats:

1977 CB550F 069A Carbs
Carbs have been messed with by a PO but looks like all they did was strip a screw head and possibly lost a tiny bit of the linkage inside the throttle valve arm... One of those tiny pieces above the spring that connect inside where the ball of the arm attaches...
going to be running a UNI filter in a stock intake setup
Muffler is a Mac Megaphone slip on with stock header
Main jets bumped up to 100 from 98 per Two Tired's recommendation (Honda Jets)
38 slow jets
new Honda carb gasket kits

Loosen the nut on top of the vertical linkage piece.  Remove spring and presure plunger.  Insert ball joint, replace plunger, spring and nut.  It's been years since I worked on my CB350F carbs, which are similar, but I seem to remember doing that.

Completely remove that nut on top, there should be an insert that sets within that nut, sometimes it comes out with the nut sometimes it doesn't, it's a tiny sucker but what ever you do don't loose it. There will be another insert/plunger setting on top of a spring, don't take them leave them right where they're at unless you have new ones to replace them with. That spring and plunger will be underneath that ball joint once assembled. It takes some finesse but take a small screw driver and gently press down on that plunger/spring while at the same time moving it towards the ball joint. It should go together easy so don't be tempted to force it. The first few times are a real PITA but once you have it figured out it becomes a no brainer.
