Just cleaned pods, put em back on, gas dripping from pods now
« on: October 12, 2012, 12:33:27 PM »
I've got a '77 550K with EMGO pods (thanks, PO).. Everything was peachy yesterday—the whole summer for that matter—but now stuff just got weird after I cleaned the pods. Last time I cleaned them was earlier in the summer, and this didn't happen. Today after cleaning and oiling them back up, I put them back on, started the bike up, and suddenly noticed gas dripping from all the pod filters, mostly from the left (since the bike was on it's side stand). It had a nice pink hue to it, thanks to the K&N oil.

Any ideas of what the h is going on?  :-\

floats and overflow tubes not doing their job. time to pull and clean.
bad float valves, incorrect height, debris from your tank...could be one or all.
you gotta figure out how come gas is not dripping out your overflow tubes too  :o

but how could four carbs simultaneously get weird overnight? everything was running great yesterday. overflow tubes are clear and show no signs of any gas going through. the only variable is freshly cleaned and oiled pod filters. the only thing I can think of is the freshly oiled filters are now more restrictive to airflow. would that cause it?

yes, less air in through your over-oiled pods would cause too much of a vacuum, pulling in more gas.
check for fouled black(rich) plugs?

Nail on the head.

If you put your hand over a carb intake while the engine is running, it'll get wet with gas.  Same thing is probably happening to your pods because you over-oiled them and restricted the air flow too much.
