Rookie Question
« on: October 11, 2012, 08:41:35 PM »
When should I replace my clutch friction and steel plates? How often? Is there a way I know when I should?

My bike is an old 85 and I am a new owner. It has been running pretty good since I have had it. But I have no clue what the bikes previous owners have done.

Judging by your question, I'll guess you don't have a service manual. First, get a service manual (getting multiple brands is recommended), and adjust the clutch per the manual. Like ^ says, if it doesn't feel right, it's likely time to replace the fiber plates. Use the manual, mic everything, and use your better judgement.

Make sure you indicate what bike you have when you ask questions. "An '85" is not always enough detail to get an answer.
