RIP Kahuna
« on: October 26, 2012, 03:46:00 AM »
My good friend Jeff Richmond, aka the Big Kahuna died last week as a result of a sudden stop of the Mercedes in front of his Road King 2 weeks before in southern Florida.

While Jeff had lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area for over 20 years, he was well known in the Boston area where he grew up and started one of the first motorcycle used parts shops on the east coast, Peoples Cycle, with Harry Sanders in 1970.
I was fortunate to be the original(unpaid) employee there, and Jeff and Harry were and are my older brothers.

Jeff and I shared many adventures, and remained life long friends, especially concerning bikes and guitars, which were a shared passion. Jeff was a larger than life guy, he had a tremendously large group of friends probably due to his love for people in general. I cant believe he is gone.

Thanks to all for your kind responses. Getting to see old friends at the service Friday afternoon, and later on this weekend proved very helpful for me. The loss has caused me to be more watchful when riding now myself. Id hate to think that I will ride slower now as well, but that is probably true too.

It will be true for a while. The thing about bad habits is that they wait in the shadows for that moment to come out. You will remember him from time to time and hopefully smile.

Very sorry about your friend.  It never gets easier.  Ironically, my dad was killed in FL the same way.
