fork filler cap

Are the fork filler caps on my 1977 550F under pressure I want to pull them for polishing.

Fork spring is in the fork, so spring load is there.  But you should be able to just loosen it using wrench, then turn it using hand, push it down as you turn it. Go slow and be careful as it will fly off and might hit your face.

Jack up or otherwise support the front end to take the pressure off the springs.  It won't make a big difference for removing the caps, but will make installing them much easier.  If you don't support the front, only remove one cap at a time or your bike will fall on its face.
