Hey Pinhead, it's all good as it turned out to be a stupid mistake by me overcharging with my battery tender, cooked two perfectly good batteries before I found the problem, all fixed now.

I'm picking the bike up March 19th but it may be a week or so before I can tear into it.

So far so good, Hushy, but I'm pretty busy with my studies.  Hopefully spring break gives me an opportunity to put some miles under my wheels.

my cb650 police special is draining battery when hot, but recovers when cooled down, where do i start to fix this issue ?

Elmo This thread is 4 years and 17 pages long. You may want to start a new one so people don't look through 17 pages. Just thinking you may get better response but here is a bump.

+1 on the new thread but with that being your issue I would suspect a bad rotor.
The rotor in these systems is very suceptable to issues grounding out. The best way to tell is to test the resistance on the slip rings from ring to ring you should get 4.6-5.2 Ohms. I tested mine cold and it was perfect 4.8 Ohms but after the motor warms up it drops to 0.0 Ohms. If the rotor is testing good then check the brush connections to make sure you have no impedance from the brush to the connection at the Reg/Rec.

I contacted Kit whose 650 had this issue and the originator of this thread, her main problem turned out to be the main starter cable trapped and grounding out on the frame.
I'm guessing when cold the conductivity of the old oil/dirt etc surrounding the bared cable gave it some insulation/protection but once warmed up all of those protective contaminants softened to allow the starter cable to ground nicely on the frame.
