Big and little. Thats a 190/50 Z rated Mickey Thompson shootout tire. In a nut shell, a DOT  slick. Should have no issue hooking up on any track, even with my 11" over stock swingarm.

Yeah, it does look like a car flywheel. But i need it to get those 1.40 something 60 foot times so i can make mid 6 second 1/8th mile passes and mid/high 10 second 1/4 mile runs. Mile per hour sucks- lol.

$700 is not a bad price. Not like they make these wheels anymore.

My rear wheel is a 17" but the front is an 18". I went with a 17" rear so i could choose from a variety of sticky street tires. I needed a narrow 18" rim for the front so it would fit the stock frontend width. The 17" from Chicanes are 3.50" wide but the 18" i have is only 1.85" wide- closer to a stock Honda width. There are no good sticky 18" rear street tires to be found- i tried many and none worked for my bike. After one race, they came off and i gave them away, virtually brand new.

The 18" front Chicanes are really hard to find. Took me 4 years to score one.

What sizes Frank, there's a few good sticky 18's, look at the continental road attack , because of the popularity of vintage racing, most tire manufacturers are making sticky 18 inch rubber.... ;)

Since i've got the motor out and plan to remove the front end to stiffen the forks, I'm Giving some thoughts to taking the whole chassis apart and having the frame powdercoated.

Well, i've been dragging my feet on this bike. The race season is upon us and i need to get this thing back together to help represent Team Sam Green.

I finally got around to putting the light weight wheels on the bike so i could check clearances and mock up the new fender. After putting the shiny wheels on the bike, i realized how bad the chassis was looking after the years of racing the bike. Looks like a complete tear down is in order to either paint, or powdercoat the frame.

Had to use a CycleX offset front sprocket so the chain would be in alignmnet from front to back. The rear tire is a 190/55/17 Mickey Thompson DOT drag tire and is a bit wider than the 5.5 MT slick i had on the bike. The rear seat pan supprt will have to be modified and widened a little to accommodate the bigger tire. I still have to pull the front forks back off to put new seals in them and internally shorten the forks a bit more. I might drop the back end down a tad as well but i'll need to leave at least 2 inches of ground clearance at the lowest point on the bike to be IHRA, NHRA and MIROCK legal.

By the way guys, by replacing the stock 19" Comstar wheel with the PM Chicane wheel, I took 16 lbs off the front of the bike. I didn't weigh the rear wheels yet but i intend to do that soon and will let you know. I'd speculate a weight differnce of 20-25lbs. I will also weigh the brake calipers along with the chains(630 going to 530) and post that weight difference too. I suspect about 50lbs will be shed from the bike once i'm done with the changes.

Bill,
I should have taken the whole damn thing apart over a month ago to powdercoat the frame. Now i want to get this thing ready to race and am running out of time before the frist ATL race. Well, i do have motor work to do, maybe while i'm freshening it up, i can get the frame looking good to.

Yeah, i know i haven't posted on this thread in a long time but the project is not dead- it just went dormant for a while. With our fearless leader Sam Green  back on the side of  the pond chomping at the bit to race i figured i had get busy again. Decided to make a another run at getting the SS together since  the Sam Green Racing Team plans to make a showing at the Man Cup Race in Bradenton next month. Pulled the cover off the bike, rolled it  out of the corner and dusted it off to see where i left off over a year ago.

I put the bike on the ATV lift and start checkign things over. One of the last things i did before i quit working on the bike is to put a set of light weight wheels on it to decrease the overall weight of the package. Weight is directly related to ET. The less you have, the quicker you go. The lighter the better and the wheels are the key to me dropping some pounds off the package to go quicker since i'm not planning to step the motor up anytime soon. I decided to spin the front wheel to check the wheel bearings and notice that although it spun easily, it seemed like the tire had a lot of runout. Closer inspection tells me the tire does have an issue but it seems i may have a problem with the runout on the rim as well. Darn. That rim was okay when i bought i used because i check the runout when it came in the mail. The only way it cold get bent was during the mounting process. My tire guy did mention he had a hard time with the valve stem and took the tire off the rim at least 4 times to repair the leakage. Given the fact the rim is so thin to begin with, my guess is he bent the damn thing while mounting or dismounting the used tire i provided. Crap. I put a fixed pointer against both the tire and the rim and sure enough, that tire is off radially but so is the freakin rim but not as much.  I'm going to order a new tire, mount it myself and then see what i get. I'm hoping its not so bad once the new tire goes on.

Time is a bit too short to send that rim out but i think i'll be fine.
