Did you check out the Kijiji ad??  It's in Canada, but you could have it there in about 6/10 days (or less for more shipping cost).  Have the seller get the tire removed to save shipping weight, and checked for true.

Yes, i checked out that ad. Thanks for looking out for me. Not sure which type PM wheel that is but its not a Chicane. I was hoping to get a match for the front Chicane i already have but if push comes to shove, that wheel in Canada might be my best bet. The listed price was good - just wondering about the shipping cost and time to arrive in SC. Time is not on my side right now with only a few weeks left until the Cup race. I'm now leaning towards taking the rear Chicane wheel off of my small tire dragbike. The transmission broke and i don't intend to race it until next season so i might "borrow it" off the dragbike just for this race. I got a line on another full set of Chicanes but hate to pay $600 for a complete set when i only need one.

Bill, thanks a lot for helping me out with the kick starters. I really wasn't looking forward to it breaking in the middle of the race and embarrasing myself by crying in front of hundreds of people from the intense pain when it slips.Ouch-lol.

Wow, now thats a true friend looking out for a fellow racer. Jim, i've had that pipe welded so many times in the past that i think i should just let it go to the scrape pile at this point. If i can't get my hands on a new one, i'll be driving down to your shop to follow up on your offer. I was a used pipe when i got it and its been on the bike for 17 years or so. I paid $100 for it so i've gotten my money's worth. I've also got one on my K model i can use if need be but its not in the best condition. A little sand blasting and flat black paint and she'll work just fine.

Running into problem after problem but not giving up yet. Will thrash til the last minute- or breath, whichever comes first.

Having a time finding a new pipe at a decent price- most places on back order. Might have to pull the old rusty sidewinder off my K model and paint it up. Have issues putting Chicane wheel on the rear of the bike- lots of machining of rear sprocket adapter  to move it in and will need to mill some material off front offset sprocket to move it outboard on output shaft to get proper chain alignment. All this will result in proper wheel alignment in the chassis but unfortunately moves the chain dangerously close to the sidewall of the rear tire. Putting a 7" wide rim in a stock width arm is not easy. Tire selection is paramount at this point. Will choose between the Mickey Thompson shootout tire, MCR2 or the Shinko Hookup race DOT race tire- will see which one has the least intrusive sidewall. The other will go on my Crazy 8's Kaw. Shinko tire won't be in til monday. Small body aftermarket brakes i needed for  the rear were not in stock and neither was the hanger so i had to get the large body caliper and hanger- more money but i got space for the equipment. Got the small body one for the front. Front 10" rotor was in stock fortunately. I have one on the rear wheel already. Main bearings came in yesterday and i recieved the new piston rings from MTC. Got a complete gasket set from CycleX when i ordered the offset front sprocket. Now if i can just remember where i put that new cam chain. Will pick up freshened head and undercut tranny on saturday after i finish building the motor for my top gas bike. Hope to start assembly on the motor on sunday, get it in the chassis no later than tuesday and fire it up by wednesday. If all falls into place, we will be off to Valdosta on thursday night or very early friday morning. Bike might not be finished with all details til the saturday time run but it will be on the property.

Well guys, its not looking good for me having my SOHC in attendace at the race. The machinist that making the spacers for light weight wheels is extremely detail oriented. While this might seem great to some, its turned into a drawn out process that he is overthinking in my mind. By the time this thing is done, the 4 spacers, one brake hanger and facing off of the sprocket will likely have more hours expended than i spent on building the bike myself to begin with. Not to mention the price he'll throw probably throw at me for his perfectionism (extra hours)- damn.

Regardless to the SOHC, I will be there with my other bikes along with my wife who will be running Pro ET at least one day. Still looking forward to this trip and meeting everyone including the guy who said something about a lynching on tuesday.

Quick update.Talked to the fella making my wheel spacers and brake hanger late this afternoon, the wheels are now done and the new front brakes are hung on the chassis. Will try to pick it up tomorrow in between the projected downpour of rain, voting and work. I've still got work to do to the brakes once i get it home along with installation of another front fender to match the shorter front tire along with a new rear fender set up. Oh, did i mention the engine is still in boxes and plastic bags?? My fuel valves for the carbs are on back order and the new sprocket has not arrive from Sprocket Specialist yet. Good news is the needle jet arrived today to replace the one i broke off while cleaning the carbs. The new rear tire was sitting in the shop door when i came home and the new V&H pipe arrived from Cali and was on the front porch.

I will need at least 3 nights and one full day in the shop to get it done. Not giving up yet. We might be rolling in on friday afternoon in time for the first qualifying session. Wish me luck guys cause i will need a small miracle and a lot of motivation with a big prayer that the stars will align. One snag and i'm done. This will teach me to build a back up motor and start earlier. Umm, i have a rebuildable 836 donor given to me by Big Jim- will get it ready over the winter. If nothing else, i'll be ready for the first race of 2013.

As my luck would have it, all of the parts i needed arrived this week. 5 days to late for the race in Valdosta. Sam and Bill carried the torch for the SOHC'ers this time. Since i now have all of the parts i need to complete the makeover of the bike, i'll be working on it slowly until the end of the year so i can have it right for the first Cup race of next season. Not sure if Sammy will return but maybe Bill and I can continue the tradition of the "one sticks" at the Cup race in Valdosta.

Will post some pictures of my progress in the next few days or so.

With some tweaking, an undercut tranny and an air shifter, i see some low 10 second passes in that bike. A longer arm might net a high 9 second pass.

What was the MPH on that 11.49 run??

You nailed it! After 1st pass hooked on forced air induction again,ran down the other larger DOHC like they usually do us! ;D Wish I'd read this post...I'd loved to have loaned you a bike.....the "RED" one!!!LOL

115.72mph...and it popped out a gear once! :( ;D It won't next year!!! 8) It's also geared tall.

At this point, i will probably make at least 3 of them to include VMP. So...... I hope my friend Mark will be there to race with us. Maybe we can get Bill and Jim to take that ride also.

Sam Green has forced me to spend a lot of money on my F model so i can race with the team in street ET. I plan to do my best not to let the team down.

Well guys, not much to update except i finally got tires mounted on the PM Chicane wheels and i bought rotors too. My rear sprocket came in from Sprocket Specialist- yes, it looks like an automotove flywheel-hahaha. I didn't take into account the difference in tire diameter when i ordered the sprocket but did some calcuations and realize i need to get one with one less tooth for the rear, a 50 VS the 51 i ordered. Will get that coming soon.

I've now got to cut and refabricate my rear seat pan/fender support to accommodate the wider rear rim/tire. I also need to remove  and internally shorten/stiffen my front forks to reduce travel and lower the bike a bit more. In  dragbike configuration, its very important to have reduced travel in the forks to help with launch control and stiffness to help stability at high straight line speeds. 

I'm going to weigh the old wheels and compare the difference in the light weight aftermarket wheels and post my results. When we did this at the machinist shop, i think we figured out it would take about 40-50 lbs off the bike. Those stock wheels and rotors weigh a ton. The last time the bike was weighed it came in at 465 lbs. Other than the wheels and replacement of the 630 chain with a lighter 530 chain there's not much more in the department of weight reduction i can do. I don't want to put a fuel cell in the backbone as i prefer the capacity of the stock tank. I doubt i can find a fiberglass replacement for an F model at this point. I'm putting aftermarket rotors and brake calipers on it too so a few pounds will be dropped there as well. My only other option is for the rider to take off a few pounds but my motivation to do that is limited-lol.
