I ordered two from Babbit's Honda online after they assured me they were available (or could be ordered). Well, they must have found one on a shelf and sent me that one indicating that the part was on "nationwide backorder", whatever that means (i.e."NLA?").

How often do you change the Honda brand friction plates?

The key is to have the correct stack height. I'm going to be certain to measure the new steels and fibers along with the used double steel and outer fiber in the bike. I may have to "make up" a new full clutch pack with early K steels and fibers with the same measurements for future use. Has anyone used the APE extra clutch plate set up in an F3 with any success???

I change the full clutch pack about once a year if I only run one class. The 2 inside steels and fibers take the most abuse. I used to go several years on a set without any problems.

Looks like Bill is making progress on his SOHC engine but I'm stuck waiting on clutches. Won't be in until noon.  I guess I'd better get to work on the other bikes. Only one more work day/ night left. Crunch time as usual.

Jerry, I need to clean the shop up before I start back working on the project bike. It seems I jump from one task to the next and never find time to get organized again. Looks like a tornado ran through the place. 😒

And then you have to drop everything to fix something else, and then something else needs fixing, and so on....

Usually when I start cleaning off my workbench I find two or three more unfinished projects buried underneath that I complete as I finish cleaning up!

Well, well, well. Just walked out of the dealership empty handed. My clutches didn't arrive as promised. I would have used another source had I been able to see into the future. Oh well, I'll clean up the steels, swap the fibers around and button it back up. We've got a race to attend. Can't blame anyone but myself for Las minute ordering of parts----someone else's dime.😞

I found 5 new steels in a stash on the shelf in a closet. Unfortunately, no new fibers. I installed 3 steels at the rear of the clutch pack since the others had a lot of heat in them. Fibers didn't look that bad though I didn't measure to see if they were within spec. Doesn't matter at this point, I don't have any to replace them right now. I'm loaded and about to close my eyes for an hour or two then hit the road. By the looks of pictures being posted at the track, its going to be a packed house by noon.

I haven't seen any posts from Bill on his status. I'm really hoping the best for him.

FRANK: I don't have any experience with APE Honda SOHC 750 clutch set ups, but I ran APE extra disc set up in my Kawasaki ZIR'S for many years with no problems [ with NO LOCK UP ]. I still got a complete new APE set up for the KZ'S new in the box from Schnitz....... change whole clutch pack every other year = with no problems. As you know the inner pads [ break ] and steel disc take the heat and the wear, we did bead blast the steels for a great surface and checked flatness on the granite table.
Lessons learned about BUSA clutch disc was that a certain HONDA clutch disc were the same and much cheaper.

Didn't realize that time was running short for the next Man Cup race. I haven't touched my bike since the last race. It was behaving a little sickly at the time so I only ran it one day. I'm pretty certain its carb related. I pulled them off tonight and will give them another thorough cleanup. I'll be ordering a Pingel hi flow filter tomorrow. The tank has obviously developed a more significant rust issues in the last year or so. Time to coat the inside as well. Its not been an issue in the 20 years I've been racing this bike but changing to the different petcock has surely contributed to what's going on now. I'll get it right.

This is a double points race. I need to do my best and the equipment has to be ready.

Trying to stay a bit ahead of the game. Got the carburetors torn down, cleaned up and reassembled. Didn't find anything of any consequence until I happened to look at the slide positions. The number 4 was a tad lower than the rest. The adjuster nut had backed off somehow and let the slide drop.  Readjusted them all so we should be alright. My inspector gave his stamp of approval so I'm done with this task. Oil change and general check over is next. Time to shut it down for the night. I've got to catch a flight for Reno tomorrow. I'll be hustling like a prostitute on a Friday night when I get back, but we should be prepared to do battle by race day.

A few time slips from Sundays eliminations at the Rockingham Man Cup race. We made it through the weekend without any problems from the bike. It had some decent passes so the work to the carburetors  paid off. I added a hi flow Pingel dual inlet/outlet filter so hopefully any particulates' from the tank will get trapped there and not migrate to the Mikunis. Thankful that the engine held up for this race and hopeful that it will live through the November event. I'll park it until then.

Good passes Frank. Congrats on the getting in the 124 mph with the old bike! K. Track prep was awesome.

It amazes me how you guys can run within hundreths, sometimes with thousands of seconds from your dial in.
And this is without the aid of a 2 step Rev limiter and automatic rpm controlled auto shifting.
Impressive... ;)

And 124 mph on your "tired motor".   Still kickin' just fine I see. :)

Bill, the weather conditions were fairly good this weekend to net decent mph. I think that's the round I was paired with the F4 Honda so it was old school/ new school racing. I decided to launch a little harder to put distance between the two of us. Resulted in that 10.41 pass-obviously not my quickest run but good enough to let my opponent know that an old Honda can still get it done.

George, my passes on the time slips from Sunday don't reflect consistent although the bike was on point. I always dial in a bit soft so I have cushion down track to roll out if I'm in front. It's all about turning on the win light, not always about nailing the ET.

A little video entertainment from this weekend's MAn Cup race. At the end of the track I turned my head to locate my opponent before I chopped the throttle. He wasn't even close so I  rolled off the throttle to avoid a breakout.
