HELP!- me not get ripped off on bike purchase on ebay!!!
« on: July 04, 2006, 11:45:35 AM »
hey guys,

I've never bought anything expensive on ebay.  I got a bike im looking at that has a price thats too good to be true it seems.
It s a 2003 suzuki gsxr 750 , chromed frame , chrome wheels, nice looking bike,, clean title, the guys wants 2600 buy it now plus dealing with shipping costs from new york to L.A.

He emailed me and said he wants to  let Ebay and SafeHarbour supervise the deal- IM all for that so i dont get screwed,, but in the end how do i know my  money wont disappear down a black hole never to be seen, and never to see a new bike in my garage?

make sure you run the VIN - make sure it's got a clean title and the guy selling it is the one who owns it.

go into "my ebay" on the ebay website... if that message is not in your messages then its a prank!

is the auction still going on?

yea,, 190004892546

the auction now has 17 bids, earlier it had 2 and the price was $250 at that point.  the guy emails me outside of ebay because he says his ebay message box is full.  so that seems shady,, yet he said he wants ebay and safehouse to supervise the deal.  oh well, now other people are bidding the price up.

how do you "run the vin" anyway?

ebay messaging doesn't get full.  don't trust him if he's making excuses like that.

If it seems too good to be true, it is.  Don't get sucked in.

well, when he had the bike up for sell on ebay the last time, i emailed him some questions.  since then , that auction ended without a buyer ( i guess?) , so he emailed me because i left him my email address.  so in his email he presented me a price of 2600.

strangely, now as i showed you guys, he has the bike back on ebay, with a current auction bid of 2700.  id be curious if he'd still take his offer to me of 2600.

check out this email i just got from him today-

--------------------------------------
Hi again,
As I've said, the bike is in perfect mechanical and aesthetical condition and the pictures speak for themselves. The price that I'm looking for it is $2600 with free shipping because I  want to find a buyer asap as I need some money.
I recently moved with my family and now we are in Berlin ,GERMANY  and I have must pay the next rate for this store I bought here.
Our transaction will run under the supervision of ebay SafeHarbor, so if you are ready to proceed just let me know, and I will notify them so we can both get detailed information regarding proper payment, shipping and insurance to be used for this international deal.

This is how it works :
1.The Seller will open the transaction --> 2.The buyer has to make the payment to ebay SafeHarbor Financial Department and they will deposit the money into their escrow account -->
3.The Seller will receive the confirmation that the payment is done --> 4.The seller will ship the item to the buyer and he has 3 days to test and  check it -->
5.The buyer will contact ebay SafeHarbor Financial Department to tell them if he is satisfied or not --> 6.SafeHarbor  will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied)
and to the buyer(in case that he is not satisfied).

The money will be HELD by them into their escrow account and I will give you a few days to test the bike and to see that nothing is wrong with it.I made few deals in this way and it worked very well.
II also  have a Vehicle Purchase Protection Account with Ebay Motors wich protects buyer against fraud up to $10.000 when using it to buy  any vehicle.

Let me know if we have a deal.

P.S. PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR FULL SHIPPING ADDRESS TO CALCULATE THE SHIPPING COST.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

free shipping?
now its way too good to be true....???

Walk away.Unless you can throw away 2600 dollars. If so send it to me.I could buy another tripple
to keep my 380 company.

There's no way in hell that a running 2003 gsxr 750 would go for 2600, lol.

Low value via nada states 4765, average retail = 6270. Way to good to be true. Let someone else get scammed.

If the seller had said,
"I just moved to Nigeria and will be sending you the balance of the
$10,000 check you are to send me...."
would more red flags have gone up? ;D

Yep, it's a scam. I used to have some laughs at the scammer's expense, but I always used alternative email addresses.

The trick is that they will send you a link to a fake -but very well cloned- SafeHarbour webpage. You will see that the browser title bar contains an IPadress instead of a www.domain.com name. I used to say "Sorry, I've been working just for three months and only have 2.000 grand saved". He will probably reduce the price, because that's better than nothing. I would either ignore him -to avoid your email account being spammed- or inform eBay, that won't do anything because he will open another account.

Gotta add my $.02 here, e-Bay motor forums are FULL TO THE BRIM with
stories like this one, so always check those forums when in doubt.
Like everyone else said - it is a scam, walk away.

Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.
