78 CB750 rear wheel size
« on: September 18, 2017, 08:29:22 pm »
Well, thanks to the search function I just realized that the rear wheel on my year went down to 17 from 18.  I will just buy a new rim but what rim?  how many holes does the stock hub need?

Thanks, sorry for all the posts.  I might be in over my head on this build but I am already $1500 into it. starting to freak out...

I think I found my answer.  The rear is 40 spokes either 17 or 18 inch.  Correct?

17 inch  May be drop center rim.. get a length before ordering spokes. .
The only thing I hate on them is the size is stamped in the side of the rim.
One nice thing though , the brake arm that moves the shoes, looks pretty good, I cut the middle out on one, even nicer.

Just measure spokes first, if you are ordering spokes, to make sure what you get will fit  your rim.

Only $1500?   Dont ever try restoring a Kawasaki Triple then!!

Yes, in '77-78 the CB750 had a 17" rear wheel and a 630 chain [larger than previous model]

If you are buying spokes, I suggest stainless sopkes from Buchanans, they cost a little more but worth it.

Are there any issues on the 78 frame running a 18" tire?

Ha!!  Good one Fly....

Should not be a problem if you use the stock sprocket carrier.  Another K7-8 change was a longer output shaft on the motor...

shouldnt be an issue.  Lace them to the 17" hub..
stock 17" rims have a stepped center, so as stated, measure spoke length needed for the 18" before you order spokes
