I went and looked at this bike today and then gave them a call.  He said he had it running this year and rebuilt the carbs but it sat for a while and will need some TLC.  He also told me he has the side covers for the bike.  $400 would take it home but I would only want it to resell after getting it running.  I was just looking for a value on a running 78 750k in this shape.  Thanks for the help.  And yes he does have the title.

In that condition i.e. torn seat, faded paint, rusty chrome, and in safe working order i.e. functional brakes, lights, charging system, NON dry rotted tires, chain and sprockets within service limits, fork seals that don't leak, rear shocks that actually dampen (as opposed to just bouncing), and an oil-tight engine, might get $800 or $900. Polish the chrome, repaint brackets, have the tank and sidecovers painted (these have to look good), touch up the exposed parts of the frame (splurge on some masking tape, overspray looks hawky, total noob hackjob), and you can easily double that (or more, depending upon the amount of effort put forth).

keep in mind...tires and tubes mounted, balanced $300-$400, new chain and Sprockets $150, brake system overhaul w/ pads and shoes $70, rear shocks $100 and up, fork seals and fluid $30, hell an oil change is $35...uh oh where did all the profits go?...and you are still left with a rusty, primer black, tore up from the floor up seat, less desirable late k...

What if the brakes have issues... they probably do, and the person you sell it to gets hurt because of it? How about the bearings and lighting and turn signals.

The bike looks like a perfect candidate for restoration but not minimal service and resale.

Do it.  You will probably come out ahead.  Probably just needs the jets cleaned to get running properly.  Clean/paint it up and replace the seat cover and youre golden.  Its an old bike.  Anyone who buys it after you will know they are getting something that needs work. Unless youre trying to sell it for 3k or something.  Then they would expect it to be sound.

BUY IT , tear it completely apart and throw everything away/resale WHAT you can except the engine,  Buy a chopper frame from Cycleone and build you a 70s chopper!!!!

Yeah I was going to say $400 is a good price, sounds great til you think about the work that can come up before resale.

 Considering The Pile (< that's my 750 just to be clear before someone has an estrogen fit) , as I call it, $400 is an insult, so offer him $300 and a cheap ol daisy bb gun or something. 

($400 frikk that - when they ask me I tell them $1,500 cash and they kind of mope off)
