Topic: cb750K5 Cb750F forks wheels brakes

Hi there,
This forum has been a life saver...
Hoping to find an answer a question about forks as I've searched all the archives and come up empty handed.  I've got a cb750K5 (75) and the PO put 6" over forks on it and I'd like to go back to stock length.  I found a set of forks off a 76 cb750F SS (30 3/4"? from top to bottom?) I was wondering if anyone could please tell me if this is a straight swap or if the whole frontend will need to be changed.

 Also, I'm interested in changing wheels eventually.  Did the 76 cb750F SS have comstars? which forks/trees/calipers would work with those or should I stick w/ spokes? (I know there is a lot of info on wheel swaps out there but I was finding contradicting info)

you should be able to swap the forks from the 76 F onto you bike without any trouble. they are the same.

the 76 F came with spokes. the entire front end on the 76 F is the same as yours.

the comstars came on the 77-78 F. they have different trees, calipers, discs, and lower tubes. basically the entire front end was different only on the 77-78 F. you can however use the forks with your tripple tree. the difference was just in the offset, not the tube diameter. the comstars will not work with your current forks and brake setup.

to get the comstars, you need to get the froks and brakes from teh 77-78 F.

Thanks STLrocker!  Thats what I was hoping to hear about the forks...
Too bad the comstars are not as easy of a swap.  I think I'll just learn to love my spokes.. maybey after I rebuild the wheels (current spokes are pretty ugly but rims seem ok) they won't look so sad.

The F fork lowers are an inch or so longer/higher than the K5, but should swap over no problems.

My 76F forks arrived and look great! the lowers are actually 1" shorter than the chopper forks that the PO put on.  Looks like everything should line up.  I'll post some pics of my progress on my 75 K5 soon.

Bolts right up no issues and dual disks to boot....course I swapped the calipers for bigger CBX ones.

Well I just finished putting on my new forks and boy what a diffrence. I'll post some pics soon I promise.  I really like the way it changed the handling and stance.  I don't think my ride needs dual disc brakes yet.  I'm guessing it's a matter of "if you want go faster you'll need to stop faster".   I've only done minor mods (pod filters , re-jetted to 115, clubmans, dunstall seat). This bike was a basketcase and I'd like to have new tires and rebuild my wheels before I get too crazy w/ it.  After all the little things that it needed/needs I'm really happy just to be able to ride and enjoy my work.

I'm waiting for winter to really tear into her... until then it's my daily driver.
It's a lil' ugly right now but it's running pretty good. with all the help I'm getting here it might just be something decent when I'm done.

I'm sure I will have more questions for all you cb750 guru's out there!
