Howdy I'm definitely new. I have been looking for a cheep CB750 for a few years now but with Cafe being the new cool thing they have been hard to find on a deal.  I switched to looking for a GL1000 to do something a little different. I responded to a few craigslist ads and was about to drive out to get one when my buddy at work said to try a little welding shop on the edge of town that usually has a bunch of junkers we might be able to talk him out of. Well i pulled up out front and there were 2 75 cb750's that have been rotting for 20 years. I started talking to the owner who would never sell a bike and asked him straight up how much he wanted for the 2 bikes. He gave me the "for the right price" speech so i figured it was over thinking he would want a mint for them. I jokingly said 75 bucks for the pair and got him laughing then said if he could find the titles i would give him 800 for the pair. He said no so i started walking away.  Then he said well...OK. I figured i could rebuild them fairly cheap since they ran before they were parked and when I pushed on the kicker with my hand the motor spun.  I ended up splitting the cost with my buddy and he took one.

The pictures attached are the two ugly, snotty, rotten, beautiful, gorgeous, perfect bikes and shots of the tiny shed im trying to build mine in.

Tear down went pretty smooth i just pulled everything completely off.  I knew a lot needs to be replaced and a lot wont go back on. Im going for a Cafe like everyone else in the world these days so im trying to get the most power and least amount of weight and keeping it as cheap as possible. The goal was to keep it under $2000 with the cost of the bike, so I need to do as much in house as possible. As I haven been doing research and finding more things I want to do to make it perfect for me I'm not going to stay on budget at all.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!  This is the place to help you do a rebuild in-house.

One thought, but you may have considered this already... Before you arbitrarily pull things off for weight/looks, think about function.  For example, people have pulled the airbox, put on pods and had to spend a ton of time tuning, not riding.  Anything can be done, but may not be worth the effort to get it to work.  With that said go for it and keep the pics coming!

So my tank was already dented and i like the knee dents, even though most people don't so I took the hammer too it and if I hate it later I'll go with a CR style tank. I also tore the motor apart and since it had been sitting since 98 with no airbox and the carbs were open for some reason the valves are toast and the pistons are corroded enough that I might as well just replace them.  I'm debating going 2nd over on the build or just step it up to 836 or 849.

Also I know this is a motorcycle forum but here is my Chevy cause its purdy with my uncles 54 panhead bobber

If you are going to sell some things on the cheap then I'd like a go at the left side foot peg, chain guard and center stand set up. Shipped to 92505. I'll PM you an offer. You might want to post these in the for sale section of the forums as well. Good luck on the build and thanks!  Rick.
