Oh man you are going to love Boone, went to school there.  You should have it good as most of the college students will be out for the summer.  Get on King Street and just hop along the bars.  Murphy's is a cool place as well as Boone Saloon and at one time Portafinos, but the crowd at that school has changed since I was last there.  Less outdoorsy people and more rich kids and trustafarians.  Still a fun place.  Walk around campus when you are there, you won't miss it as it takes up the entire town.  Some good photo ops are at Howard's knob and all along the parkway through there.  Check out the Viaduct and Linville falls and of course Grandfather Mountain 8)

Prokop, how about 9-10am @ McDonald's in Front Royal?

Thanks Bob. Internet access is limited, my time is limited. If a mod could move the photo, that would be great.

Sounds good, see you there. 9AM

Schnell just left taking 340 South from Elkton and I am headed back.
We rode 50 miles or so together.

Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the shared miles, Procop. I was great to meet you and put a face to a name.

My trip so far has been about 800 miles. Afternoon rains really put a damper on motorcycle travel.

I'm in waynesboro right now, going to look for the north entrance to the blue ridge parkway.

Hey, are you riding the entire length of the Parkway? My group did that in May, a very nice ride. there are some motorcycle campgrounds along the way if you're roughing it. Have a fun ride and let me know if you'll going all the way to Cherokee, NC, maybe I can get some of my Atlanta riders to meet you in Ashville

I rode Blueridge for about an hour then had to get off to find gas. Never got back on. I found myself in Bedford, then ronoak, and now radford. >1000miles total now.

I'd like to get to Chatanooga by tomorrow night, and to Memphis on Saturday afternoon/evening.

I'm just outside Bristol for the night. I wanted to avoid doing so, but took the I85 for an hour to make up some mileage.

Thanks Steve-o, but it's a tach cable. There's a big dealership in Chatanooga that I'll check out.

Thanks saltcitycafe!

The place I was hoping to stay at in Boone which I found on airb&b, was booked for tonight. I didn't quite make it that far anyway.

I got off the parkway to get gas and had to go a long distance before I found any. I also want to get to Memphis by Saturday night. I've got a buddy there who can show me around, and Saturday night is more fun than Sunday night, even in Memphis.

Living the dream. It's kind of surreal. I feel very fortunate to be able to do this.

I know you weren't coming to Hilton head/ Savannah Ga area but my nice 26 ft Jayco camper is still open for a couple days if you need! These east coast beaches are 8-14 mi from my house! Tools and cover and a Honda dealer in Savannah GA if you need a place to ship tach cable too!  Ride safe!

I know this well in advance of your needing it, but looking at your proposed route, I recalled being up at the Soo last August (first week) to show my grandsons the locks. We ate at a restaurant right across the street but you had a clear view of the bridge crossing to the north. It was a Saturday and I don't know if anything in particular happened that day, but none of the traffic was moving on the bridge, perhaps creeping. You certainly wouldn't want to get stuck up there on an air-cooled M/C. As you come to that phase of your trip, you might want to check  http://wait.saultbridge.com/ The wait times can be misleading as I believe that's at the border itself and can still result in backups and creeping on the bridge itself. Of course crossing in the wee hours would avoid it. Best of luck.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

How's your Colorado leg looking? Any projected dates? I'll keep an eye on my calendar. I'd love to ride through Colorado with you but just haven't put the priority on getting the bike going.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
