Hi, thanks for the response. Sorry, I don't know the manufacturer of the aftermarket exhaust. Ear plugs are on my list, especially now that I dropped my long time favourite and quiet Shoei helmet, breaking the visor mounting mechanism. I went for my first ride of the season on Easter weekend, with a secondary HJC helmet, and the wind noise was very annoying!

I found it on the Internet. In a way, I'm embarassed to say that I bought the $12 unit from China instead of a $30 domestic unit.

I got a helmet today from kijiji ! This model (RF-1100) was on sale at some motorcycle shops for $350 because Shoei has introduced a successor model. (RF-1200) I got this helmet for $250 with an extra tinted face shield. I have to do this trip in a frugal manner in order to afford to do it at all, and I'm very happy to get a really good helmet.

I got the same RF-1100 helmet also on sale. It is a great helmet but a little on the heavy side (in XL) for my liking (1740g) and feels very big compared to my previous Shoeis (X-11 and TZR). However wind noise is decent (low) and field of view is very good.

Anyway I hope you like it and a good helmet is essential for a long trip!

My old helmet was a 15 year old Shoei RF-800. My new helmet is lighter.

Like the Shoeis! I have an old Shoei RF200. Not my primary helmet any more, but I keep it around. They are indeed nice helmets. I only have one problem area in my Shoei 200, and that is the forehead, which receives pressure all day and by the third day of riding makes me dread to put the helmet on. My primary is a Shark Evoline, but they quit selling them in the U.S. Not sure why.

I had a RF900 - now that was a great helmet!

The bike is ready! In the last 2 days, I:

Changed rear tire and tube
Oil and filter change
Valve adjust
Air screw adjust to 1 turn out
Carb sync with vacuum gauges

Leaving in a week!

Stayed here at the cottage once near Luray. Quiet and outstanding gorgeous. Coffee on the back porch and sunrise over Blue Ridge, wow! Hike down to Shenandoah nice too.http://www.riverhillstables.com/main/index.php/lodging

I'm just talking to a local, and here's my new plan: I'm taking 340 south instead of skyline because of the speed limit and cost, and getting my twisty kicks on the Blueridge parkway for free with better views. (So I've been told.) my destination for tomorrow night is Boone.
