Crikey, that's an RCB.... Now parts for my RSC are rare but parts for that bad boy.......!!!!!

Gutted we couldn't make it to the Bol this year as we chose the Manx instead, we are working on 2013 so fingers crossed.

Really hate to spoil the fun, but it is (just) a CR 750, but with the casings grinded from all the unnecessary parts, just like RSC did with the first RCB's. They used, almost, the same castings.
It is definitely a fast one with a very fast rider on board!

and yet, not the smartest thing in a fall.... just guess that Monsieur Bertin doesnt fall off too often, at least not on the left side

Pretty impressive the fact that they finished 5th overall out of 52 bikes, beating, well.... some 47 other bikes who were mostly much more modern dohcs/16V/etc. My friend Dario Tosolini finished just behind them on a Segale DOHC Honda prepared by his father Ettore.

i think the fact that it rained may have helped , my old mates steve boam and steve clark had a good ride to finish just behind that segale .

Therefore a quick engine with a Spondon frame, some mag wheels, some decent forks and shocks and some decent stopping power and it could be in with a chance with the right riders ....

Always said a SOHC still can do the job. Again it is proven. Very important, even more than the engine, are the right riders. Saw it this season with a slightly underpowered engine against much stronger and faster engines, when both riders outgunned a lot of the youngsters by being able to keep the pace and carry, a lot, more speed thru corners.
Even not convinced that a non- CB frame is that much better although weight can be an issue.
This is my 'dream-bike' which, at some point, will be build and used.

This is a Dresda framed, 970cc very fast one. Only the frame will be OEM. And they survived and won 24 hour races.

I agree about the riders but also the frame helps, we ran a test some time ago with a braced OEM frame and compared to the Spondon frames we have and the Spondon frames were superior especially mid corner and more stable at speed.

It's got me thinking it really has......

OEM frame benefits a lot from longer swing and a bit more trail. And mount the engine the right way. But felt that there is nothing wrong with your Spondon in that area too.
I see it as a challenge to come up with the SOHC against the 4V, double nockers. Driveabilty is as good and low down even better, only real setback is pure outright power. IMHO

Yep I agree outright power is key (Those MotoBel boys are like lightning on the straights) and keeping in touch with them is where you want to be.

What sort of reliable HP do you think you can get from your planned engine Rob?

Gday Alex, you may want to read the thread in the HIPO section on the cycleX race bike, it was blowing away DOHC race bikes quite easily, from memory, 115 reliable HP and extremely fast, altered angle on intake ports....

And sure would like to know what engine they use???
Carry a lot of speed out of corners onto the straights too.
Thinking of maybe 100 rwhp, depending on engine size. Does not seem too much but need to keep it in one piece. Good streamline would help too. Look at this bike as example:

Bill Smith build two of these for himself and John Williams. CR750 kit-bikes with Bill Jakeman streamlines, MIRA tested for dealing with overheating back in '72. This one is from John and uses a Krober ignition, hence the 'bulb' on side of the fairing.
