I was doing something to the front-end back in the 70's and happened to look from a low angle and it was one of those "what the..." moments.  ;)

I just sit sideways by 1 inch to the left.  It makes left turns easier too.    ;)

Is that why I've always been able to make a sharper left turn than a right? ;D

I always assumed it was an ergonomic decision. I use the forward offset of the right peg to place my foot on the ground at a stop light. The left peg is exactly where I would naturally let my foot down.

I am a bit short with a 30" inseam however.

I'm going with rototiller's "We have 10,000 leftover brake pedals" theory.

I did San Francisco to Anaheim on my '74 last year in one day. I was definitely standing up for a while on the highway to stretch my legs.

Leftover from what?

Doesn't make sense to me. Nothing else has a bp even close.

The first time you re & re a motor, you can't help but notice the peg difference, they only go on one way.

Well, that’s certainly not the case with the 1969-76 750 K brake pedals since they do not correctly retro fit other models. Honda used at least three different brake pedals for the 750 K during its production run.

the pegs on the 350F are not symetrical either!  had me tossed when reassembling but its just the way it is.  must have been the last bit they designed.

Cant say i notice it when riding but you think it wouldnt be hard to get same same!

Maybe it compensates for road camber  ;-)

Why is the posts not centered?
The left peg is just about the only place it can be due to the engine cover. It is nearly directly above the motor mount it is attached to. Slightly forward.

The rt peg is also above the MM, but also slightly forward, but moreso. The reason is pure speculation. Some say to clear the KS or vv. It doesn't seem to me to be the reason. Seems more to me that Honda in theiir infinite wisdom was looking for the ideal place to put the average size American foot in relation to the brake pedal. The pedal's length also being an engineering decision to reach an optimum leverage.

I've read that Honda puts a lot of effort into these ergonomic decisions. As this thread indicates, most owners would never even notice until something points it out to them. Same with me, I remember the first time i realized it and said "my, my"..

OCICBW
Hmmm...Honda must have hired the ergonomic guys after the original 305 series Superhawks finished their production run.  My 66 Superhawk has the kickstarter between the right peg and the rear brake pedal.   :o

The Superhawk also kicks forward, one of the few bikes to ever do that. An acquired skill. A concession to sporty placement of the pegs and the adjustability of the pegs.

It does have an electric start, so KS is old fashioned.   ;)

Yeah,  nothing quite as assuring as hitting the rear brake and hearing the buzz from engaging the kickstarter at the same time.

I never noticed.  Now I'm screwed, I'll be forever looking, feeling, shifting my feet around.

Actually the big heavy alternator on the left side takes care of that. Always easier to turn left. You never noticed that???  :)
