1976 CB 550 Cafe Build
« on: October 23, 2012, 03:50:02 PM »
So I picked up this 1976 CB550 for 400.00 bucks and a guitar last year and have been slowly working on it and other bikes at the same time. After reading build after build on this very informative site I have decided to post a build and hopefully get some of your wisdom and ideas on this undertaking. At first I had the intention of doing a quick conversion and just reselling the bike but I have really grown to love this little machine and the incredible examples here on this site and now I will be doing the full conversion from the frame to the motor and then some. My son will be helping me so he can get a feel for the workings of a motor and how it works from the inside out. I have already done some work to it like the paint for the tank and the seat. The seat is from Dimecity and i will be putting the battery and electrical back up underneath the hump in the seat. So I need to find a smaller battery to accomplish this. The bars right now are clubman but I will look into clip on bars also to see if they look better. I have redone the front forks with new seals and paint on the lowers but I really like the idea of another CB50 on this site that put R6 forks up front so I may get some more advice and go that direction just so I can have a more modern feel to the front end. So let me try and post some pictures and away we go. :D

flats, welcome to the forum.  Good to see another '76 being redone.  I get how addictive these machines can become, I'm on my second CB and 6 months into my '76 550 rebuild.  Look forward to some pics and following the rebuild.

Thanks for the welcome! I am in the process of tearing the bike down right now and have plenty of pictures and will get them up as soon as I can figure out how to shrink them for this format.  I am just finishing a 1982 GPZ 750 and will post some picks of that one too. Fun stuff!!
