1973 350Four cylinder numbers

Well, I let my 350F sit for too long without riding it and couldn't get it started. It lives at the condo in Florida while I live in New Jersey. We went down for the 4th of July and when it wouldn't start I drained some gas out of a float bowl and it smelled bad of "varnish".

When I first took in down to FL a couple years ago, I got it running with the help of a local MC shop. It ran great, lots of power, a really sweet little ride. My bro-in-law who lives locally tried to help me keep it running by getting it out for a maintenance run occasionally, but his busy life caught up to him and the bike sat too long in a hot garage.

Anyway, I yanked the carbs when down in FL over the 4th and am shipping them up to me in NJ where I will attempt to clean them.

Here's my question -- I got the bike running using starting fluid, but it ran on only two cylinders, judging by hot or cold exhaust pipes. While sitting on the bike the two running cylinders were the two on the right. Which number cylinders are these? I know that 1 and 4 are on the outside, with 2&3 in the middle. But which is which?

Anyway, I think I got one running cylinder on each set of the dual points, so I doubt my problem is with the ignition system. Probably fuel starvation due to varnished carbs.

If someone could clarify the cylinder numbers and their respective positions, I would really appreciate it. The old manual I have is not clear and I have searched the archives. I guess the numbers are printed on the wires, but now I am in NJ and the bike is in FL.

Thanks for any help -- CLifton
