What tire and tire size for a 78 CB750A?
« on: October 25, 2012, 03:10:48 PM »
Hi guys,

Not sure if my IQ is too low but does the search option on this site work?

Anyhow, I was trying to find out what tires and tire size to get for a 1978 CB750A

From the factory service manual, looks like the size (and I believe it might be for all three years since theres no delineation amongst years) is:

Front: 3.5H19
Rear: 4.5H17A

Equating that to modern sizes, I was thinking about getting:

Front: 100/90-19
Rear: 120/90-17

But the matching name brand tire options are pretty much non existent. What is everyone running on their bike?

Thanks,
John

You may have more luck asking this question over in the non-A forum.

The rear swingarm for the 77/78 A bikes is the same as the 77/78 K bikes.

The bikes also had the same 4.50 17" rear tire, too.

Probably a LOT more folks over in the non-A forum that will chime in.

I'd chime in - but I'm running a NOS 4.50 17 tire I bought two years ago.

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

Thanks guys. I did end up looking on the non-A forum

After searching on multiple resellers... I was able to find two matching sets in 100/90-19 and 120/90-17.

- Michelin Anakee 2 Adventure
- Bridgestone BT45V

Any experience with these?

However, if I bump the rear up one size to 130/90-17, opens it up to a couple more brands like Shinko 230's that are a little more cost effective. 130's too wide?

Will look in the non-A forum too but too lazy right now to do a search. Lol.

Thanks,
John

Get the AVON Roadrider 26 tires.
Front is ( reversable) 100/90-19
130/80-17 for the rear.

Lucky / JimS63 - I see that Avon makes a 130/90-17 as well. Was there a reason why you guys chose the 80 over 90 aspect ratio? Would it rub?

Mine had the 130/80-17 on it when I bought the bike. I got a nail through the tread and out the sidewall, so I got a new tire (same size). I'm not sure about other sizes, but there are no close tolerances anywhere that I can see.
