Working on some tank designs with photoshop
« on: October 25, 2012, 05:10:22 PM »
Thinking this with some pin striping around the creases would looks best for the idea in my minds eye

Tried using my shoulder tattoo design in the knee indent location... not sure how I feel about it
" Why does anyone get offended by what someone does to their own bike? I dont get it. "

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.
Every time any owner strips whatever precious Honda part the horrified purists parts go up in value. That's not the part that bothers them.
What bothers them is they sat up late at night, their breast full of wonder and estrogen, unable to sleep, dreaming about their lovely darling and all her glory... and next thing you know someone else doesn't share their emotional deluge and their reaction is they must spread their mind museum as far as they possibly can, taking over as much of the real world as possible.

I like the tattoo look, but I'm not crazy about the location- seems like your knee would be in the way of it. But I've oven thought about doing Polynesian tattoo designs on a tank. That would look really good, if you have the skills. Maybe something like the Maori fern designs: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30272738@N04/5676736531/# ?

The original idea, had both the graffiti honda and the tattoo, but it looked really bad so I scrapped it.

I want to use tribal style pin-striping around the edges of the tank but I am feeling lazy after a 5 mile run and am being lazy

If you don't mind a critical eye...

I'm more intrigued by the second choice; mostly the location and proportion of it. The logo obviously has some meaning to you, but for me it is less about the image and more about the way it fits into the space of the tank.

The first seemed a little skewed to my eye when overlaid on the tank and could possibly use more photoshop massaging as I think the graffiti design does look pretty. There is just something off in terms of the horizontal "Honda" sitting higher and closer to the sloping tank line.

Just my .02 but I like where you're taking it.

I appreciate the input,  My shop skills aren't very good but I know what you mean, its just not quite there yet.

I tried this on for size to but apparently I didnt save my work because it wont let me move the honda image down a bit like I want to....

The first design does not look like a font and is almost unreadable.
It just looks like Graffiti.

The second design I like better but your knee would cover it up.
Here is the same design modified. Silver black and red over white.

I am a real Art Director. BFA in commercial Design, University of Arizona, and and MFA in Sculpture, San Francisco Art Institute.

Yeah i know.." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"  Problem is many have not beheld very much and have seen very little and have not thought out their ideas very well. I did not spend 6 years in school and many years working and learn nothing.

Graffiti is exactly what I was going for with the first design.  I like graffiti and have always wanted to incorporate it into a bike.

That looks pretty good lucky.  I am going to play around with that a bit.  I also did a version with the honda graffiti where I replaced the O with the tattoo.  Looked pretty neat.

I like this just needs more than just the honda, and Im not coming up with what that should be.

@ Dave I dont do graffiti I just ripped off the only single letters I could find online in a short time period,  I will be sending the tank to a local airbrush artist who will take my concept and tweak it... Like I said in my other thread, I cant wait to see how people react to the graffiti paint job, I know it isnt for everyone and I dont really care.  To me the OE honda paint jobs are boring.  They are classic and semi-elegant but this bike is neither of those things so an OE paint job wont work.  I want the bike to look like it was tagged but thought keeping HONDA on it somehow would be cool.   The process of trying things out is how you get things right, if you dont try you end up with cookie cutter played out ideas that are boring.

Dave's got a point, Warwick. Take a look at this guy- notice how the graffiti just fills the space and spills over the edges? Just layers and layers of paint. That might get you more the look you're going for, and as long as you keep it to the tank and side covers, it'll still look clean I think. Let's bust this wide open! :)

Critics don't bother me at all Dave  :) I was just explaining my process, I'm not at all offended.   I actually agree they all dont look right.  I was hoping someone here might have some graffiti ideas or insight in graphic design.  Lucky's insight was helpful... that's what I look for in responses, the rest I could care less about.  I wont bother to explain next time.

@ Dusty I dont see a pic in your post

Here’s another similar style of lettering you might be able to work with, try to ignore Suzuki and imagine Honda. Shading the inside of the letters in candy and/or pearl colors will really make them jump out.

Hell, I didnt notice that.  I see it now and that's bad.  Like I said before I didnt design the letters, just easy to find representations on google images.  I did start on my own hand drawn design (much easier than trying to do it on a computer without a stylus) Ill post something up something when I get around to it.  Right now I have about 5 limos to fix, ughhh stupid limos

I've always wanted to take a limo, cut forward along the left side of the roof and the right side of the floor, install a hinge on the second cut so the whole top and side can flop over and lie flat in a sort of stair-case configuration. Then put a bar in the top half, and a dance floor on the lower. Boom: instant party!

Hah! Touche.

I was thinking more along the lines of picking up an old one and dragging it out to block parties and festivals and stuff. But you make a good point.
