That bike looks too nice to be called peasant build!

Just noticed the left and right side covers don't match?

Does your top end makes ticking sound like mine? Just have to ask.

thanks mick,a bit of polish and the paint should look sharper, still have to paint both the stands, its roady ready stevo apart from no chain guard no left mirror and small seat rips,i figure someone will cafe it anyway?no weights on the front wheel it could do with a balance, those are the covers i got with it goldarrow, the left one is a 500 one but clips on as standard, the photos still make it look better the chrome is sad!,no ticking in the top end,if yours is ticking slightly with the tappets adjusted dont worry about it unless it starts to get louder,it might have pitted tappet screws or valve stem tops, the rocker shaft might be wearing into the cover?bring it over and ill have a look at it.

Man Dave, read your entire thread in a short period of time, you skipped a lot of photos...did you setup a time machine around the bike to extend time or go back in time with the bike to get it all wrapped up so quickly.  You could do those bike build offs and do them proud as quickly as you work.  Bike sounds very nice. The short large diameter can and small opening like you say gives it a nice deep tone with some body.  Sounds really nice...but the quieter exhausts are easy on the ears for touring distances.  Nothing beats a throaty exhaust like yours for around town grin factor and fun in the twisty roads, adds to the enjoyment and smile for me.

Bike looks great and will look even better when the paint has cured up and an you can peel back the orange for more gloss. ;D

Cheers!

thanks rafster,i didnt post many pics as they would be the same as any project photos and i wanted to keep it short, its really only cleaned up without detail like stainless/chrome nuts and bolts on things like fenders/pegs and brackets or new bright cables etc,it would take a week start to finish if done without a break,i got lucky when my mate rang me about the basket case for sale and the fact it was mostly all there!ill post some close ups of the chrome, its not a pretty sight!but someone might take it to the next level and restore or cafe it?or bobber or chopper it?

Dave, Were those the closeups of the ugly are before shots?  Is that the handlebars in the 2nd one?  They certainly look different now!

Those cables have a nice coat of pebbly rust popping out...hate it when chrome does that...

Aren't the Yoshimura "cans" short and large diameter like yours, the are reported to give nice deep tone like yours.
Some measurements would be helpful for those wishing to replicate the sound, provided they had the materials and skills to do so...or hired someone to do so.  You sound like you know a bit about exhausts and tuning them. Have you studied it or have experience or built a few?

I put a "Super Turbo" Dynamax 2" muffler on my '66 Volvo 122 after putting the later P1800 2" dual tube down pipe and header design that was on some of the B20 motors. I had a B20 with K grind long duration cam and standard valve train (SOHV design pushrod 4 cylinder 2.0L motor). Custom 2 inch exhaust with the Super Turbo muffler which was short and wide with free flowing design. Freed up the breathing on the dual SU HS6 (1.34" carbs) by fabricating 4" thick filter stacks on the carbs so the motor had free breathing and changed the SU carb needles to SM needles. That car was very peppy and had great big motor sound and people were shocked it was only 2.0L but at 60-75mph the cabin would resonate to the point I wore ear plugs on a trip to VT in it and back. I put a 12" long glass pack beneath the passenger compartment and it helped prevent headaches but was still a little loud for highways speeds. Loved the sounds and handling on that car as with HD Bilsteins and 205-60-15 BFG Comp TA ZR tires it was a cornering machine and tons of grins.
But I am way off topic.

I learned a little about exhausts and tuning redoing the exhaust on that car and reading and researching it.
Boomy exhausts and resonating cabins may be fine for a street rod and race car when wearing ear plugs but, it is really tiring for distances.
I like touring on motorcycles and curvy roads in either a motorcycle or car and distance travel by either method. So I enjoy the sound of yours a lot but, don't know if it would be bad on distances. But, you don't intend to keep it so, it won't really matter.
The bike looks good in pics and should bring good money even with the quick job and less than lovely motor like you describe if you keep that exhaust system on it.

Dave, you could wire brush those cable ends and then degrease/clean and hit them with some black wrinkle finish paint and they would look good, you wouldn't know it was "textured" metal and wouldn't care then...

yeah i could, and i have done that to old cables in the past, thats for someone else to do,someone else can add some input to it once they have it,i put cotton wool in my ears for wind noise anyway,,the induction noise on these things is pretty heavy anyway,i like the walker/lukey super turbo mufflers,i have an old pair on my 73 312 cid holden, the new ones are better now with stainless baffle tubes and better welds,i have a quiet cabin and the nice dual exhaust burble floats behind me!it has a qjet carby and large open element filter so i can make a pleasing induction roar if i want to.

I had some of those decals you could buy on ebay several years ago and put a couple on my sister's silver Toyota Landcruiser,  and I put some on my parent's car and showed my mom the gag I was pulling on my dad and sister.  I had been visiting and had left my parent's house where we had met before my sister left. I was driving back home living several states away...about 8-9 hours away.  I had a good laugh because she called and told me "ha ha, not real funny".
It was in fact hilarious because she went to her car and came back in telling my parents someone shot her car. Guess she didn't get close enough to see it was a decal. She was preparing to call the police when Mom laughed and encouraged her to go look closer.  Was perfect!  Mom told me she wasn't happy with being tricked, as my sister expressed the same to me...
She wasn't happy with me but, it made me smile and still makes me laugh to retell it.

Ha!

Oops...interesting stories we have when we start sharing/revealing.

Hear the urban legend about the redneck who was stranded in the woods and fuse blew, didn't have anything else other than 22LR round to bridge the connection to get out of woods with game in back of pickup. Put a live 22LR round in the fuse clips. Driving out the resistance and heat from current passing through round caused it to go off shooting him in the leg.
He's a redneck because of stupidity to put live round in fuse holder...
maybe just lacking common sense, maybe the story is total bull, don't know if it could even happen putting 20A through a bullet if it would do this...much less if a round would go through clothing and injury you. Firemen don't normally stress over conventional rounds cooking off in fire unless there are massive quantities... reloading supplies can be a different matter.
