I am not so sure the 550 is a good candidate for an undersized battery due to the low output of the stator.
If you do any decent amount of city driving with the light on you will drain an undersized battery fairly quick.

the walmart flooded battery im using now for testing components and starting while i rebuild this bike is 10ah... how much capacity do i actually need? and considering i dont intend to run it on a starting motor

is lithium or nimh a suitable motorcycle battery type when not using an electric starter?  if so, I could make a custom battery pack using round cells for 12v and whatever Ah capacity I need, and fit it with the other electrical components under the cowl without removing the splash guard
