So nice to be working on a Honda again
« on: October 29, 2012, 11:15:13 PM »
After a year of Yamaha's and Suzuki's I'm finally working on a Honda again, OK so it's not 30 years old but 23 years isn't bad. Doing the forks tonight and they came apart by the numbers. ;D This is the CBR400RR we were not going to touch until the GSXR250 was completed.
Son wants this as his keeper so we have taken it back to it's bones, new seals bearings etc until we have a perfect rolling frame, rims are away being powder coated. Motor only needs cosmetics as it only has low kilometres on it for some reason and runs strong.
I'm not one for riding sports bikes but for this baby I'll make a rare exception when it is completed. ;)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Yo Scunny, yep these things are mighty fast but amazingly well built, you have to see the front shocks to appreciate how sturdy they are. Funnily enough as they came apart I was mentally comparing them to my old CB650 forks and they have not changed much if anything in the internals.
We are gonna love this machine back to how it was from the factory. ;D

Good job I got plenty practice doing steering head bearings on the old CB650's, this CBR400 has same problem, still has stock factory roller bearings but son has new tapered bearings to install.
Honda, conformity to the max, feels like working on an old friend. :)
