Weather and riders
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:14:39 PM »
Since we have weather on the mind today, I thought that I would share a story about a rider that I've never met.
In this life I have been in 2 tornadoes in N.Y.  The first one was a large one, and I've never seen one before then. I watched it coming from miles away from a mountain side perch where I was building a new home. My crew packed up the truck when we figured out what it was,it was so beautiful from that distance. It was a moving cloud with orange lightning that seemed to come from the ground. On the way out I parked my work truck in a field that was near it's path, I just had to know it personally,so I backed that truck right up to it....don't do that,  not a good idea.
The second  tornado was smaller and I didn't see it coming. I was driving down the road in the same truck on what looked to be a blustery raining day. It was dark ahead of me with the exception of one small light piercing the darkness and coming my way fast, I realized it was a rider  blasting through the haze, giving it all it had  as his headlight passed my truck, I smiled as I recalled my younger riding days and thought "kids" , just then the roof of a large barn crossed both lanes in front of me.
I never met , nor do I know who this rider is, but when I think of close calls, I still picture him.

My buddy rode his XR650 down 19/23 Hiway, 55mph sideways down the deserted road, nobody in sight except for a lone cop car. The cop was heard by another friend listening on his scanner saying "There's a crazy fool out here tearing it up in the snow! Looks like he's having a blast!"
