Advice needed!! 1978 Honda cb 750k (carbs)
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:14:38 AM »
So I have airpod filters on my bike, I was told I need to rejet my carbs in order for it to run good. It has some back fire to it.

I've heard instead of rejetting, I can put some cotton clothe or a foam type of filter outside the pods so it can restrict airflow.

Is this a good idea?! Or should I just rejet?!

find an original airbox, done.
;D

but if you dont, yes, you'll need to re-jet.

Yea, that was another alternative.
Well I guess I'll re-jet too keep the pods
Thanks!

Well it's up to you but my '77 had velocity stacks on it when I got it and I finally gave up trying to dial in the carbs and found an old airbox. Lots of guys have used pods & stacks on these carbs successfully but I wasn't that skilled.

Let me know if you'd rather have stacks than your pods ... :)

its going to be a tuning trial and error. plug chops after each run.
start with dialing in your main jets. you'll probably be in the range of 120/130's.
sirius has some main jet 'kits' with a good size range.  i suggest you get one of those kits, along with #40 and #42 pilot jets.
you should be really close with one of those combinations.

just be sure all other maintenance stuff is done. valves, timing, good battery/plugs/caps and REALLY clean carbs/functioning accel pump  ;D

Is your exhaust stock?  If not, that would be another good reason to rejet.

Most of my bike has been worked on, carbs are clean.
Everything is stock except the pods.

I think Im going to go with the air box for now cus it's a hastle to re-jet and get it just right.

Unless you're totally sold on the pods, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going back to the stock air box. It takes 20 minutes to install and you're done. With pods, jetting trial and error could take you weeks and it STILL could not be right. Do yourself a favor and get a stock box.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

You will feel pretty cool when you're riding down the road on your smooth running K8.

Stacks and pods would be the same jetting.
Only the mixture screws would be a little different.

To rejet for the 1978 carbs with pods and STOCK exhausts.
Assuming you have the accelerator pump system and nozzles all working like they should be.

Also assuming all push in idle jets are clear. They must come out for inspection.

If you have the stock exhaust you may only need a mixture screw adjustment.

Do that first.

For the mixture screw. How many turns should it be?!

I forgot about the jet needles, they don't have to be adjusted/shimed ?!? If I mess with the mixture screw
