petcock assy. compatibility Q
« on: November 02, 2012, 06:48:08 PM »
Hey there, I was wondering if anyone here has had or has a 72-74 honda cb350f. My concern is I'm on my second replacement fuel petcock assembly, and this one is now leaking at the plate section, as eventually did the other ones before that too. Is it possible to cross-reference this and use one that is compatible ? possibly the  honda number 16950-300-020 that advertised it fits early 70's cb 500,550, and 750 tanks. The "correct" 350f honda number is 16957-333-025 (discontinued). I do believe that there is another petcock assy. that would actually fit. I own two genuine honda oem petcocks that are from two different models that both fit my 74 cb350f tank, one is 100% "correct", the other one is honda oem from the same 70's era (unknown model). They differ in the outlet number(s) & exit angle. The mating shape is a long oval w/ the pickup tube in the middle with two int. screws on each side of tube holding the assy. to tank.  Any help is well appreciated. Thanks.

You can get the face seal, #16955-268-020 , or the top seal #16997-273-006 from Honda for a few bucks. These are typical replacement parts that wear over time, usually about 5-7 years. They shrink from the ethanol in today's fuels, so they might last 4-5 years instead. But, they are simple to replace.
