I think I just scored.....Lesters?
« on: November 04, 2012, 01:18:12 PM »
I've been watching for a set of Yamaha mag wheels for an upcoming XS650 project. Fronts are easy, but I've been watching for a drum brake rear, which is actually more rare than the disc brake model.

Hit ebay a few minutes ago and saw and ad for "yamaha rear wheel rim aluminum mag sr xs 400 650 18 inch cafe chopper drum brake".  The seller says he was told it was from a Yamaha but wasn't sure. It sure looks like a Lester to me! The hub looks just like my 16" Lester. The groove or ring around the perimeter is a Lester trademark, too. The Yamaha wheels didnt have that groove.
At first, I was afraid it was a 16", but looking closely at the pics, it sure looks like the tire is a 120/90-18.

Even better, he had the front 19" wheel, too. It also has the groove around the rim.
What do you think? Lesters or not? Either way, I'm happy, because the price was right even if they're Yamaha rims..... $29 each!

Sure looks like it. Rear hub should have name in drum area. Regardless, $29 is a great deal.

They got the Lester weld on them.
I saw a real Morris Kawi Ltd front go for 67 bux the other day, would have liked that one. Saw a 750Morris front in Toronto on ebay, didnt bookmark it, could not find it after it ended..was under 200 and clean example.

I'll look for the name when they get here. I have a 19"/16" set on my CB500. That's why I thought they were Lesters.

And Steve-o, I agree....I know what the Yamaha mags go for. I figured even if that's what they are (and I'm 99% sure they're NOT), that's a good price for the pair. I'll have about $113 SHIPPED in the pair!

Oh, and that's most certainly a Honda brake backing plate, too....

Oops...I meant for this to be in the SOHC Bikes forum. If a moderator stumbles across this, can you move it, please?

Nice score.  That is most definitely a CB500/550 18" rear.

Nice pull.  I can't tell if the "crud" on them is dirt or corrosion.  If the second, clean them up and make sure they are structurally sound before you ride them.
