And it's over
« on: November 05, 2012, 03:29:12 AM »
Sadly the riding season is over where I live. This weeks high temps will be in the 40s and it will continue to get colder from there. My bike spent all of this riding season getting ready. After a few missteps it was road worthy. I only got a few weeks of riding in but the rides I had were fun.

Now comes the winter fix up.  Lots to do.  New gauges, new shocks, new bearings in the triple trees, new wheel bearings, new brakes, new cables, new spokes, new mirrors, pull and paint the motor and who knows what else.

That's the list.  Now let's see how much of it gets done.

Yep. Highs today is 45 but the end of the week upper 70's my riding season is officially over after the toys for tots ride which will be the 25th of this month. But look at it this way you have the next 3-4 months to fine tune and do the things you want to your bike.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

I hope for snow to do a frame up.   She needs it, but if the weather holds I will be riding.

The only thing that keeps me from riding, in WINTER, is SNOW-ICE-RAIN-SLEET.
You can ALWAYS put on more layers of clothes to get warm but in the summer you can only take off clothes to try to cool down. I now live in NC with various climate changes, but I have lived in the Dessert Southwest. When it got 120f ,you could ride naked (if the law allowed) and still be burning your ass off, LITERALLY.

Give me cool weather anytime!!

Agreed, I ride all winter but not the 750's. I take the Wing out as long as there is no ice or snow on the roads. Sometimes I just need to have that fix....you know.  8)

When I was a kid, I rode in the winter.  The only mode of transportation I owned was my CB350 and a Huffy 12 speed.  So I rode my CB in everything but snow.

Now that I am older I don't care to ride unless its going to be fun.  I don't need to prove anything any more.  So I ride for fun and its not fun when its below 50.  Not for me anyway.  I also don't ride in the rain anymore.  Its one thing if I go for a ride and it happens to rain when I am out.  Then I have no choice but to ride in it.  But if its raining when I am leaving the house, its the truck for me.

Call me fairweather or what ever you like but for me a bike is all about having fun.  If you take the fun out of it, it no longer makes any sense to me.  But that's just me.  When I see a guy riding in the freezing cold or heavy rain I just think "poor bastard!  To bad he doesn't own a car"

Own a car and own a truck, but unless it is below 30 or raining, I try to take a bike.  sometimes it just doesn't work due to work, but riding the bike the 40 miles to work and back home are about the only things that make going to work worthwhile lately.  I will have to admit though that last year I did break down and buy electric heated gear and I will ride my Road Glide in the below 40 range.  I agree about the not wanting to leave when it is raining .. unless there is something special to ride for.

I'm the same when it comes to rain. I don't make plans to ride in the rain but if I'm out and it happens, OH WELL I get wet , not the first time and won't be my last. I do have to say that it is NOT a CB750 but a GG=GEEZER GLIDE with windsheild and very few CB750s look good with a windsheild unless it's a P model with Fairing/Windsheild and bags.

Our weather turned to wet autumn almost over night. That was a month ago and I don't expect to get more than one or two rides in till spring. I'm being hopeful even with that, cuz I don't set out in the rain or cold either.

If I'm cold I'm not relaxed and smooth and that's not a safe feeling.

Good luck chipping away at that list.

Cheers

its not often I can take my bike to work.  I drive all over New England for work, between 30K and 50K miles a year.  I tend to be dressed up somewhat and need to carry my laptop with me most days.  Its just easier 95% of the time to take a car or truck.  That makes the days I get to ride more special.

Sorry guys.  The temp is 82F right now and mostly sunny. Light breeze.  Weeks forecast is for low 80's for highs and night time lows in the mid to upper 50's.  I think we have quite a bit more riding weather to go down here.  In fact our winter shutdown is normally measured in days, not weeks or months.  The big bike is out on the drive and already has about 20 miles on it today.  Got to make another job related trip this afternoon so it will get some more riding.   Weekend was great, had to make the Lone Star Rally on Saturday.  Great weather, great rally.

Looks like it's gonna warm up a bit here in MI this week too... :)
(lol @ my neighbor who just put away his HD)
I usually ride regardless of rain...
and generally if it's below freezing (32F) at night I don't ride due to potential ice patches.
But this year I've already pushed it heh heh.

It's really just all about dressing right.
No need to make it hard on yourself... I'm perfectly comfortable with the right layers and shell.
I prefer a RIDE any day over a simple commute.  8)

Got to agree!

I'm in southern WV and it does get cold here. But we always have several days each winter month where the highways have been cleared and the sun is shining, even if the temperature is thirty degrees. That's warm enough to ride.

Took the tank off the 750 last night for new stripes, and a float bowl look at. Will do the stripes this weekend with the "float em on" technique  ;)

Can stand anything on a bike except a cold wet soggy crotch when that happens I start grumbling, and yes I have driven in snow and ice, at 73 not so much anymore.

glad i didn't throw in the towel yet --  supposed to hit almost 60F tomorrow and saturday.  tomorrow's supposed to be nice and sunny, and sat it's supposed to be nice till  the afternoon (then some rain).

very happy.  in fact, i'll probably keep her active until late Jan - last year we had a week of 70s wearther in mid January!! -- then tear her up a bit in Feb for some maintenance/upgrades, and wait for the March riding weather to come back :)

Ohio ain't that bad, but man am i jealous of the folks in the southern climes.  year-round riding?  yes, please :)

Windjammer isn't so funny looking after all. As long as the road doesn't frost pretty comfortable all winter here in Ontario
