Drill and tap a couple of bungs onto the airbox and counter bore matching thru holes in the fuel rail inbetween the injectors? Bolt together once the assembly is aligned.

The airbox is pretty thin stuff.  I say zip ties!  Vote on a color.

It would be a crime to paint these welds  :P

We had planned to use these 1/4-20 threaded weld inserts to hold down the rail like you are getting at sparked. The rail ended up not sitting as in line with the plenum as we wanted. Might still be able to make it work.  Would be the cleanest option.

You could tap both ends of a peices of alum rod. Bolt it through the airbox from underneath, then figure out the angle needed to counterbore the runner and keep things inline. Hopes that makes sense.

I think that you want the load running longitudinally along the fastener, not an axial load like this.  That fuel rail could be subjected to a lot of force trying to pop it off.

Definitely force: turbo pressure, vibration, even fuel pressure.  And it has to be removable pretty easily.  Think about the direction the rail has to move to pull the fuel injectors out of the holes (or out of the fuel rail, which ever).

It will be 2 bolts to remove it, if you are worried about the load on it add a couple of gussets back towards the injector tubes.  Take a look at how they attach them on cars, even turbo engines with high boost pressures don't have a hell of a lot holding them in ;).  There just isn't much surface area for the boost pressure to act upon to push them out.

I agree with try blue. With the small amount of area that actually sees boost/fuel psi, the 2 6mm bolts shouldn't have any problem holding it on. My main concern really is making it look cool  8)

A couple buddies dropped by to lend a hand and some encouraging words.















If you look closely you can see the wastegate is tucked under runner 1 nice and snug.  Im pretty happy with this placement.  leaves only a little open to the incoming air stream, most of which will be utilized to cram air into the turbo with the intake.  Plus with the larger clutch, and the lack of a charging system, this should help balance the side to side weight distribution.

Hey 195suz, do they have plenty of camping in the area?  With water?  (Something tells me we're going to do a lot of sweating!)   I have an F350 with slide-in camper that is going to be the Mothership.

I don't know about water but you can camp at the end of the road that leads out to the salt flats. There is a gas station about a half a mile away I think you can get water there, I think there might be a camp ground in town but I don't know about the rates.

Well it was time to move over to Ethan Stiles shop (Porter Built) to get the frame work fabbed up.  It started out calm enough with us going over layout of parts/water tanks/intercooler..... took a few pictures...all was dandy.

Have you figured out how to tie-down your injector fuel rail yet? I would try to mount off the ends of the rail, parallel to the injectors, tying into the outside edge of the outside intake runners. I did this on my home-brew EFI V-8 project, but my fuel rails were round. I don't have a good picture of the tie-downs, but if you're interested, I'll try to take one.

No I haven't figured it out yet. We have so much else to do, I didn't want to stall on it anymore than needed.

I like your mounts!  Good idea and nicely executed. My dad was mentioning tieing them down from the ends too. We'll keep that in mind, thanks.
