Core. Shift on 74 cb750 heads, or cylinders.
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:30:27 PM »
Anyone notice this on their fatstripe 750,s..its so bad, you don't want to build a highly detailed nice motor using these heads..

Most  unlike Honda to let such shoddy work get into production, I think it's really chintzy looking..
Anyone else bothered by this ?

...yeah, the cylinder head ports are so freakin' bad on my k6...I almost can't believe the thing ever ran...so bad that even I was confident that even I could go in there and do some porting without messing something up.
If it works good, it looks good...

What really bugs me is where the fins meet up, they are out like a third of a fin width..terrible...
When casting parts, sand cores are used, if not lined up properly..things don't look right..

OK I get it now Another member called it flashing. Said he went over the whole bike with a air grinder had a pointed stone on it. Look smooth as silk. Think I will take my time and do mine. You can really see the difference.

Casting flash is different, it is just. Material that oozed out at a seam in the molds. Core shift. Often means misalignment or thin spots. That is why dragracers. Sonic check V8 blocks for thin spots.

That is the problem if you file it to match it up,the lower fin is half as thick as the top one. Looks very bad if the head is  painted black, and the edges are sanded. I have others like this or worse.

Thanks for the lesson. I did not know the difference but what you said makes it clear. I guess filing down the flashing is more cosmetic but could help cooling a little.
