Motorcycle registration
« on: November 06, 2012, 07:06:06 PM »
Hey folks, got a quick question, specially to anyone living in NJ or wherever DMV rules are similar.  I'm eyeing this '71 CB350 from NY. Guy said he bought it but never registered the bike under his name but he has the registration from PO. However, NJ DMV rules state that you must have the registration AND a notarized bill of sale in order for bike to get titled. My question is- has anyone in NJ or similar state successfully titled an out of state bike with only the registration paperwork but no notarized bill of sale? If so, is there more to it than just showing up with the NY registration and proof of insurance? Please advice, TIA.

My only experience with the NJ was bringing the F from there to here(Virginia.) When you say the rules state...do you mean their website or something? Give them a call in the morning and confirm that. I have never heard of a notarization being required before. I guess they want an official receipt to get the sales tax out of you. In Va., when I titled my K8 that a friend just GAVE me when he joined the Army, they took my word for it and just charged the minimum tax of $47. If I had said a family member had given it to me there would have been no tax. When I brought the F down here, they just accepted the receipt the EBAY seller gave me on a page ripped out of a spiral notebook.

Sorry I can't really help you...

Yep, in NJ MVC's website...
*Registration and a notarized bill-of-sale from the previous owner with vehicle description and sale price (motorcycles from non-titled states only)*

I bit the bullet and bought it anyway.  Now, I just have to find a notary public commissioner...  8)

There is usually a notary at any bank, town office or county office.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

I think you may be reading that wrong!!
It says for motorcycles from NON-TITLED states, you have a title from NY for the MC, take it in and at least try to register without BOS and see what they say!!

I'm glad I live in the south .
