I have no tatoo on my skin. Nothing wrong with people who does, but as soon as they became a fashion instead of a thing from inmates, drug dealers and legionaries, it's already too late.

For the same reason, I don't have in any of my bikes:
skulls or crossbones
celtic crosses, flames, or any kind of cowhide
eagles or anything with the legend "ride to live, live to ride"
no indian figure, conchos or leather.

In a nutshell: if you put that sign on your bike, you are crying out loud: "I'm not a rebel; I'm a poser"

I once saw a guy parking his Sportster. His girlfriend was a tall, gorgeous girl. I thought: "man, that guy is lucky"

Then he gets a massive chain out of her backpack and locks the Sportster! C'mon, I thought you were tough. If you are so afraid to have your #$%*ty Sportster -not that is a bad bike, but c'mon, is not that expensive- stolen, then you are not that tough after all....

Hipster doesnt have a geography, it just means he thinks that since everyone does something now it makes you a poser.

ahhh i follow ya.

around here, the hipster kids all wear clothes that were made before they were born, and claim to have started liking everything before it was mainstream.

i saw some kid the other day when i was out at the bar - he was wearing a Members Only jacket and i had to exclaim "ohhhh nice coat, bro!  i threw one just like that away in 1989!!"  hahahaha

I didn't know what a hipster is. I once read something about somebody who "discovered a band so cool he had to kill them all so nobody else would like it" -was a joke-. Is that a hipster?

millions of people ride bikes. If I were a hipster, I wouldn't ride. I just don't use my bike as an expression of myself. People can get an idea about me just for the marque or model I ride, but that's pretty much it. The same goes with clothes, I try to look as average as possible. I'm in my early forties and I have just passed through that time when I wanted the World to know I was there. Now I prefer the World doesn't acknowledge my existence.

I forgot! No checkers in my bikes either.

Alan, you'll be just fine ;)

There was a good point further up, though- skulls are cool, but because they're cool they're over done. Give it a spin- don't make it a straight skull, but a skull made out of motorcycle parts or something. Don't use the symbol, but reference it. Here in Oakland, we have an MC called the East Bay Rats because they all ride rat bikes. They have an interesting take on it:

From: http://www.eastbayrats.com/ Please don't hurt me for hotlinking your logo, guys! Much appreciated! ;)

The point is that it's not a skull, OR a devil- it's a rat face with horn-like ears and crossed wrenches. But everyone gets the reference, and that, my friend, is cool. Anyone can stencil Jack Sparrow's flag, but then you're a Jack Sparrow knock-off. Do your own thing, and they'll still lump you in with the Jack Sparrows and the Edward Teaches and yes, the East Bay Rats, but you won't BE any of them- you'll be your own man. Think about it.

Ever since Johnny Depp pirates seem a bit gay now......not that there is anything wrong with that. ;D
I would rather see something that big boys like to play around with... a little T&A.    This is going on one or both my XS650's.

I don't like girls either Alan, they smell, probably have cooties, and steal all your money. I do enjoy taking the piss out of "rebels" who "individualise" their bikes with "original" ideas like plastering their bikes with skulls and crossbones, chequered flags, flames, and all that other gay #$%*. I look at a bike with that stuff on it, and straight away I know what kind of person owns it. (and I avoid them, at all costs.........) ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Don't take no offence Alan, but your signature speaks a lot about yourself. I used to be younger and I also thought the world was against me. I've come to a point where I've understood that the world will still spin round when we are all gone.

If everything is about the chicks, then why do you ask us? Go ask the chicks whether they would lay down with a guy riding a rebellious bike.

The Sportster anecdote was about how some people buy a bike thinking it will make them look more rebellious, but at the end of the day, they show they are not.

I don't have no signature and I don't have any avatar in my profile; as I said, the more I can go unnoticed, the better. And the same with my bikes. But that's just me, as you asked for opinions.

I didn't say that. When people is cool, they are regardless of what they wear or ride. Steve McQueen was a thousand times cooler riding a Honda Cub than myself riding -place name of cool bike here-.
There were reproductions of Steve McQueen riding jacket. I would not wear that, there was just one Steve. Cool people don't follow trends: they create them.

I am so opposite to being cool that I try to avoid any situation where people could think I'm pretending to be cool. What's the point of having a bike looking rebellious, but then you wear a full-face helmet, full insurance etc? where's the rebellion? What are you rebelling against? -sounds like "The Wild One", doesn't it?

I'm 17, for anyone here who DOESN'T know. I care deeply about a few things; my car, getting laid and recently, riding.  Most everyone here is older, married, and long past the time when they had the youthful vigor to want to be different and find an identity in the world, to define themselves in some way. For me, I drive an e36 BMW, that car has some serious character. I saw a cb550 in the back of someone's barn when I was going to buy a dirtbike from him. I had to have it, it had tons of charactor, even in its rusted, half destroyed state. I signed an air force contract 2 weeks ago, not to be different, to be part of something bigger.

I'm not trying to be a rebel, I'm trying to create a bike that has a character all its own with or without me on it.

By the way, I think you guys forgot what it is to be young, girls are awesome, and if they start wasting all your money, maybe it's time to move on. At least while your young. So stop being so #$%*ing bitter about being stagnate old men and do something about instead of attacking kids on an internet forum who just want an opinion on a design from some guys who ride. Not get flamed out for days.

Ahhh, 17, those were the times.... enjoy them while they last. Time flies my friend! I always say that the first 18 years of my life seemed like an eternity, but it was fast to get to 36....

If you want a last advice from an old lad, stop wasting your pretious time asking for opinions on the internet and build the bike you like, have all the girls you can, and live life to the fullest. Then you will be cool without even trying to be!

I know you won't follow my advice; I used to think I knew more than everybody else.

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that in 20 years time you will be writing some words like mine to some young lad who is asking about how bad his bike would look like. Or if you won't, at least be safe to be here in 20 years time.

Don't take the most of the "attacks" seriously, it's just people yanking your chain for a little chuckle.  It's what we do as we get older instead of trying to hump everything in sight. ;D  Take your lumps and soon you will fit right in.  It's nice to have folks of all ages here.  You will get plenty of help here if you have problems with the bike and sometimes even without all the joking.
As far as your bike....do what you want....your 17....you don't care....you're a rebel.  Just don't get upset if some old farts with their benefit of perspective yank your chain now and again.  My only serious advice would be this:  A well preserved, restored, or well done modified vintage bike makes it's own statement not the graphics on it.  Just don't get too caught up in being defined by the things you own.....something I picked up over the years. ;)

Now...how about some pictures of those girls. ;D

Ahahaha, ahhhh to be young, dumb and full of cum again. Those were the days, everyone's just razzing you man. Well everyone but Terry, hahaha. It's you're bike, do to it as you wish. As long as you are having fun with it, it's all good. Oh and some of us old guys still give a #$%* about our cars, getting laid and riding or bikes. Age doesn't change any of that, haha.
