If you're painting the bodywork bright like the red, I would keep the rest of it dark. I guess it's a question of what you want to stand out...the bodywork, or the motor and wheels...silver body with all black could look cool. Personally, I would paint the body black, and go polished/silver on everything else including the wheels.

Woke up this morning and decided to paint the whole engine cast coat iron to make the engine looks more appealing and a bit on superior looking than the rest of the bike

Also replaced alternator on the bike, as the old one have hole and leak

Can't find my points cover lol

Will have a basket case soon, and roller afterward

the whole paint process, started off with degreasing for like 3 rounds, I used simple green Pro HD (purple color) came in gallon). blast off with air compressor, wipe off, soda blasted the hard to reach places, degrease again, then air compressor dry and wipe. this gets most stuff off. i'm not worried much over the stuff that are really hard to reach. I didn't use alcohol to wipe off the surface for better adhesion, I didn't do that either. then I painted with BBQ paint, that I originally thought I would but it didn't look right on engine. it looks great on frame thought. then yesterday I degrease the whole engine again after all button up, then paint the new color over the BBQ paint. I used a bit of engine primer that I had left from previous project. all in all, the BBQ paint should be good base as primer. the paint I used was VHT Cast Coat IRON.

No grill at home to BBQ

not so much of a drinker nowadays, besides i'm very light weight when it comes to alcohol and I get drunk after 2 Heinekens, hahaha

preparing for basket case, lots of pads on the floor.

with mixture of masculine and feminine in me, lowering down the engine

turn in over sideway on the right side of the engine, removed the oil filter

slowly lowering down the bare frame to the engine, and trying best not to scratch paints, all went well, only few scratches that again i'm not worried about

my lower and upper triple tree that I worked on the paint months ago. it already came with tapered bearings, so all I had to do was just WD40 the bearings, cleaned out the old grease, make sure they spin freely, and applied small amount of grease

forks assembled, steering move freely, I now have a basket case

i needed to mock up the bike to bring my endorphin level up, for excitement

here's one with tank and side covers that I got from member Chewbacca5000 sometimes last year

and here's one with tank I got from member kevins750

and here's again, how the bike came

asked the wifey to see which she likes best, but she wouldn't answer. I think she's testing me if we are thinking of the same color choice......hmm....

only did a few things on the bike today, but seem like it took forever to complete, then head out to work.

cleaned and installed oil tank and hoses, clutch cable and left hand control, bolt up engine to frame and foot pegs. also double checked the fork tubes to make sure no oil weeps around the seals, there were lots of rust pits and I fixed it with jb weld months ago. then, my 2.5 year old was all over the bike.

hopefully mounting up swingarm and shocks tomorrow

Wheels in the making. Degreased some. Bead blasted some. Rinsed off some. Denatured alcohol some. Then painted the outer rims black, then taped up.

Painted up the rest with gold.

Removed the tape before the paint too dried up.

Mocked up next to the bike.

Can you see a lot of imperfections? No? Good, as I don't have the cash to properly restore these wheels at the moment. So hoping this will do for now.

just small updates, and problem.

cleaning up my wheels hardware so I can mock up the wheels before ordering tires. having a problem with my rear wheel adapter, it has cracks on 5 out of 6 bolt holes! dangerous! at least I would think so.

or is it ok to run like this? does anybody know where I can find a replacement for it?

That would make me question the integrity of the entire wheel. Does the brake disc bolt through that as well?

Yes brake disc bolts go through those holes. There were some oxidization to the wheels, not sure how much is bad.

If that is aluminum you MIGHT be able to get the cracks welded. But in general I would say that is toast and you need to be considering different wheel options.

my other option is to pull lesters out of my parts bike, and convert this bike back to drum brake, been thinking this lately too

Going to wait and see about the wheels.

In the mean time, moving on with other parts as there are still lots of things to do on the bike.

And so, pulled the carbs out of the box. Nothing seem out of ordinary

What's interesting about them may be the chrome bowls and the brass floats???

The carbs are way cleaner than expected.

And oh, the jets are #40 and #135!!!! Isn't that way too rich for the main jets?

Those jets sound like jets for a pretty radical cam and pods as well as a pretty free flowing exhaust. What's the motor got in it?
Aren't the 550 jets in the 100-105 range normally and the 750 in another band... I don't pay close attention to the 750 tuning threads since I don't have a 750 and don't plan on getting one.

yeah, the jets on the carbs are fairly large, compare with the stocks setup which are between 105 to 120 depend on carbs type. i'll have to look into that more and doc my findings here. inside the motor doesn't seem like there is any performance parts installed. the pistons were stock when I was working on the rings. the cam was Honda cam. stock air box and Mac exhaust came with the bike. not sure if the pipe was open or had a baffle in it.

looking closer to the carbs before tearing down.

I think this is one of the many reasons why the bike was parked. to large main jets, and this??? notice the tip of the needle sticking out

removed the rack holder plate

inside the slides and removing the needle

all the pics are prior to cleaing. here's a pic of the carbs after a day of soaking with pine-sol mix with hot water and let it sit over night. dirt and grime was easily wipe off, except for the hard to reach area.

decided to also get harbor freight ultra sonic cleaner. here's what came out of the carbs after soaking.

carb bodies in comparison. will still have to one more round using q-tip

carbs are marked 7A with brass floatings
