Interesting.  Stock pipes? Pipes holes are already about about 1.5" each, I frame hole another may be 1", foot peg, I also used lock washer and flat washer, and the nut may be 3/4" thick

No, that's the difference.  I mounted the Hookers.....

Then tried to start up the bike, but had the hardest time of my life to get it to start pulled the plugs, wet from fuel.  Cleaned and gapped, bike started but not idle.  Tinker with petcock, looked fine.  Dropped the jets, looked fine not clogged, some sediments in the fuel bowl. Fuel bowls were low in gas.  Hmmm.....fuel not flowing to carbs, hmm....  Blow fuel line with mouth, no flow, hmm...  Perhaps carbs passages are clogged up??? I guess, Time to pull the carbs again...

Seems as though you are getting fuel, make sure the spark advance unit is working...Larry

Cleaning up the pistons and rings, getting ready to put back,


but of course something has to go wrong.  Soaked the pistons and rings in soapy water simple green mix, at least one ring still broke upon removal. Carbon and crude were that much in the groves and oil holes, took me a while to poke through 18 holes each piston, then soda blasted away to finish up the cleaning



Ordered new set of rings from Japan, one piston pin was badly pitted, too much soaking, ordered a new one from Honda.

It does not matter if the old rings break. You cannot re use them.
Just in case I will say it. NEVER use a wire brush on the piston or its finished.

Found my issues.  Float valves seemed very sticky to the seat on all 4,  took out all brass pieces and clean them again one more time.  Anyone have a good recommendation for starting point for jetting? 

K5 stock motor on
7a carbs
Float 26mm
Main 120 stock, but i have 130
Slow 40
3rd grove
1 turn out
Needle 27201

Air intake UNI individual pod filters, HM300 exhaust pipes no baffles

I'm thinking I might be lean to begin with but not sure where to start the jetting changes.

Possibly, but gonna first try to see if I can work with jetting and have my bike sounds like a motorcycle

It actually sounded nice when the idle hung around 3k rpm, then quickly shut down the bike with kill switch

Oh, I bet it sounded awesome, my ol Black Bueti had open exhaust. But, can be hard to tune, but you're a pro, so I'm sure you'll get it there.
Get it warmed up and set that idle around 1200.

Replaced carbs return spring. 

The top spring is off the carbs on the bike, bottom spring from parts carbs. 

Most hanging idle is gone, just a bit left.

I think the problem may also be that I'm using single cable throttle on push/pull 2 throttle cables carbs, or just simply old cable. 

Engine got hot pretty fast so I went ahead and did carb sync, just because I'm already there

Sounds good, like a real motorcycle.  Highly doubt hanging idle is lack of push cable, get a new puller.
Test ride?

Working on the bike a little but today. Redo front brake, removed right side caliper and hose, filled brake fluid and bled.  Rock the bike back and forth, great.  Then looked down to the left to kick the kickstand up, puddle of oil by kickstand! and I had already replaced the shifter seal few months ago with Honda seal.         

Wiped off the oil, and realized I forgot to snap picture, but I'm sure there will be some more in the morning

Oil leak around case seam by the bolt near sprocket corner. Tighten up the bolt, and hopefully this hold off the leak for a while as I'm not mentally ready to do bottom engine tranny tear down. 

Bike is ready for test run to gas station.  Will see how it goes tomorrow.

Pulled my bike out to see the new world, parked next to the sisters



Got it to start, but no go! . Pulled clutch, put in gear, release clutch, lost power .  Pipes on 3 and 4 were little colder than the other two, so I swapped out with a new one.  No change.  Lost power after put in gear and release the clutch. 

Mad.  Then parked the bike, and took the green 550 out for a ride.
