So how are some getting 3.7 qts in theirs?

This IS curious. I've changed a LOT of oil on a LOT of CB750s, and all of them easily accepted the 3.7 qts. The K0 actually held 4.0 qts, first 4-5 months of production (bigger, square-er oil tank at the top was the reason, then Honda changed the manual and the dipstick). I usually run 4.0 qts. in my K2, doesn't cause any problems.
The sequence I've always used: drain tank first, then crankcase and filter housing at the same time, then remove filter. On reinstall, kick over 40-50 times until the oil light goes out (maybe add another few electric-start seconds for good luck), then start & run 1-2 minutes, stop and check level.
